Ok here we go then, 1st theme "Directions" ... took me to an abandoned motel and then I gave it a 'treatment' ...

I like your speed Gramps, has inspired me to crack on and get my first image uploaded!
Good start and good luck!

Nice shot. Really eerie.:@

That was really quick too!:)

I feel the need for a ghost in this one...;)

Fits the theme very well and the ghostly processing fits the location.

I'm not keen on the top bit..crack in ceiling because it seems to draw me away from the sigh and the view down the corridor. There's also not much detail on the lower right.

Overall, good start and I've subscribed

Nice start Gramps.... off to a flyer !

Like the pp , def adds an eeriness , not to keen on the large white area to the lower left - disracts my eye somewhat but a great start

Keep up the good work...only another 51 weeks to go

Thanks for the comments guys & gals, I pondered over the ripped ceiling and thought it helped convey the 'abandoned' state - on reflection it may not contribute anything. I quite like the washed out parts :)

gramps... good opening gambit..but i'm confused... my room is downstairs... which way do i go?

A great start Gramps! The processing really works well and lends itself nicely to an abandoned building. I like the inclusion of the crack, but it is one of those pics that would work either way if it was cropped out. Look forward to seeing your future pics.

 maybe that's why it's abandoned!

Thanks Michael

I like it although I agree that the damage in the ceiling is a little distracting. I wonder if it would work better with some sort of frame as (on TP xmas background at least) the edges are very indistinct which I find distracting.

Very quick out of the blocks!
Good start, I think the processing suits, and an interesting take on the subject. I like the inclusion of the ceiling damage, but feel that by its inclusion we are also give a fair area of dead space between where the damage ends, and the shadows start to fall on the ceiling. Looking at it, for me, perhaps a slight crop on the left, and a crop to the ceiling shadows would maybe provide a decent alternative.
Great first effort though, and 10/10 for punctuality. Look forward to seeing more from you.

very good start  tho I'd be tempted to crop some of the bottom so that the sign is nearer the bottom and then the ceiling can stay :)

I like it a lot - not sure I'd have the courage to visit these abandoned places myself, but impressed by the shot and the idea.

Can see there's going to be a lot to learn from this project - G.

Works for me, also looks familiar... Not a little place just of the A38 near Bristol by any chance?

really like this shot and the 'treatment'. Although the pictures a bit big for me to view the whole thing on my screen.

R u a bit of an urbex ?

I've been called a 'Herbert' before but not an Urbex :D
Seriously though, I'm not, it's just that I've passed this place a few times and because it is 'unprotected' thought I must pop in to have a look.
The theme made me decide to look in as I guessed there might be some signs I could use in conjunction with the abandoned scene.
I might look out for some more abandoned buildings from now on though - just need to be careful at my time of life :nono:

Good start Gramps, like it.

I like your take on Direction. I personally don't have a problem with the crack, and I like the pp. I would have preferred more detail in the bottom right, but that's my only negative. Good start!

Time to reset your Tardis, us lot are still in 2011.

Quite like the pristine sign with the derelict nature of the place but not too keen on the blown out bits.

ps....don't foget to update the spreadsheet....makes it far simpler to see who's done what...link in 1st post where the themes are posted up...I've updated wk1 for you

Thanks ... had no idea ... still don't but I guess I'll find it :D

Im on my phone atm so cant paste links. There is a link in my signature and there is a link in the thread where the themes are announced. Pop an x in when the theme is done. Names are in alphabetical order.

Okay guys and gals, this theme got me scratching my head, however with a bit of help from a little friend who agreed to model for me I came up with the following:-

fear.jpg

Ha ha, good shot.

I really like the way the dof almost show the fear of the height. Although I'm not sure whether the monkey is scared of the height or the fact he is naked in public!:P

Nice shot, made me laugh.

Thanks ... I can assure you he was scared of the height ... we nearly lost him into the gorge when a gust of wind came a few moments before the photo was taken and he gave me a fair bit of lip about Health & Safety!

Excellent! Made me chuckle too!

Who would have though it a monkeh scared of heights  Good thinking and execution Gramps ;)
