Graduation?

"Get him aksed" is used a lot where I live. However one guy at work says "chimbley" (chimney) and "lampton" (lantern).

I'm afraid I would have to shoot him

Samuels graduation at nursery was actually a show put on by the kids not that we went cause Samuel didn't.
that's slightly different, and I can see the fun in that,
but graduation?
Its another money spinner at best,
At worst it making the kids "grow up too fast"
By making them think they are something they are not.

If they want to put on a bit of a show for the parents, great :)
But get an award for leaving nursery to go to a "Infant school"?

Does that mean infant schools and then junior schools will obliged to do it also,
otherwise the kids will feel a failure
when they don't graduate onto the next school?

Seem to have seen more university graduates wandering round town in their graduation gowns this year than ever before. In fact, this is the first year I've seen any (apart from very close to the campus.)

and does it not mean that the university diploma becomes a yet another pointless piece of paper? It destroys the motivation

This is probably because they are looking for the cheapest photo studio in town as the hired photographer is both expensive and not much good. Or maybe they are just looking for scenic locations such the joblesscentre+ to frame themselves in with an iphone

Not really thought about that end of the scale TBH.
Do they also hand out bits of paper when you leave?
even with no qualifications?
Have things changed so much?

Do Wagamamma and MacDonalds count?

It might destroy yours but it wouldn't have done that to me. My motivation was being good enough and working hard enough to get tge degrees. I didn't even go to my own graduations....I picked up my diplomas a couple of days later.

If a person's motivation is so easily destroyed then perhaps they're not really cut out for the university life.

Junior Schools certainly do it up here - they have Proms - stretch limos , floor length dresses - the lot !!

Madness - these are 12-13yr old kids !!

More to the point do you have to be able to count, to work at either?

Crazy!

I suppose the 16-18 year olds deserve a bit of a p*** up party for getting their "A's" etc
But its still another Americanism that costs the UK parents a bloody fortune as the
participants try and out do one another :(

To be fair, there's always the "no" option.

With an 18 year old on a mission to out do her peers?
You don't know my daughter :D

Pete might want to!

You went to uni, more than once, your school education/studies got you to higher/advanced education level to qualify. I would assume....

I got 2 highers, both and C and one was a second attempt ha ha ha ha ha

Pete might want to!
Her financier (sic) is 6'3 and works out quite a bit.
(besides that, I'm armed and dangerous ;) )

A mate of mine used to refer to Mrs Nod as my future ex-wife - before we were even married! However, we've been together longer than he has with all his wives put together!

Nah the offspring , wives, and parents of friends are off limits - bloke rule #7 - and while i wouldn't describe chris as a freind I don't think hes a complete t*** so thats good enough to qualify

Not to mention her own good sense of taste

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned - bloke rule #1

Flippin heck that should get you into a decent research/industry role.

only if there is a job going which there hasn't been for 4.5 years - 2 job interviews and a lot of knock backs.

That is the problem with a really specialised education is it leads to very niche jobs, but such a fine education should open up teaching jobs, some form of scientific position (probably beneath you) but still....

You'd get a banking/finance position too. Sometimes, the dream is really hard to get, but I do wish you well with it.

On a FaceBook thread about the headmaster of our local high school* (who has a doctorate in theology). Someone described specialist education as knowing more and more about less and less until eventually you everything about f**k all!

* You might have seen our idiot headmaster in the national papers earlier this month. He decided to send hundreds of pupils home or exclude them for minor infringements of his five page uniform policy with just a couple of weeks of term left.

Steve.

Steve.

Someone with a doctorate in Theology probably is an uppity f***tard with no real grasp on reality. I've had many disagreements with POAH and I still disagree that university education should be free but a science graduate with his level of education is a relevant and useful member of society that needs a good scientific company to take them on to utilise their knowledge

untidy school uniform is a bug bear of mine - its basic discipline to be tidy and correct.

If she's chris daugfhter she can't be that young - afteall he's at least 16 years older than me

When did I go up in your estimation? :p

to be fair i still think you're a partial t*** ;)
