I think you would be unlucky to get done for failure to display, ANPR will pick it up as taxed, MOT'd and insured if it is - very few of the guys I used to ride with ever had the tax on display, a couple did get warned and I produced mine from my wallet once on the Ducati when we got stopped, he checked the reg numbers matched and that was that.

Unless it is parked where it shouldn't be I reckon you will be ok ?

My mate has never had a tax disk on his bike, He's been asked by Plod a few times about it but explains that He's had it knicked in the past, after that he just took it down the station & they ticked the box :)

Kind of shifting the blame though eh? it's not their responsibility to remind you, it's your's to tax it on time.

been in the garage since august.
too bloomin busy to use it.
just soooo pee'd off that i havent had a reminder, as i ALWAYS stay legal.
specialy as i'm an hgv driver.

I missed it once on my car, no reminder or anything was sent to me. Sure enough a week after I taxed it I got a fine :( had only missed 4 days too!

With cars they usually send you a form to fill out for a tax disc within the last half of the month that your tax runs out on..so you can fill it out and pay at the post office or post it back with a cheque...

yup, which is what I was waiting for in my case. I should have checked the disc myself from time to time, but who does?

You could just print a copy of the confirmation email that they send you and that should cover any problems should the plod stop you. As Dseered mentioned, ANPR will see it as taxed but the beat bobby (if such a thing still exists :suspect:) will question the tax issue.

I used it last year and it was questioned but they were happy with the confirmation print.

Cheers,

Adam.

I have an old 60's moped in my name which I have kept for the dateless number plate, the last time I taxed that was in the 70's, before SORN was introduced.

Wonder where I stand with that when I eventually get it taxed and insured to transfer the plate:shrug:

It is still on their records stating when it was last taxed.

Do you have a modern V5 for it? It not, then you will not be able to transfer the reg.

I used to have a 1958 Land Rover, which was stored in a barn from 1973 to when I got it on the road in 2005: still had the old '73 tax on the windscreen. I had no problem taxing that (and of course it was free).

i think its disgracefull
i ran out of millk today
just looked in the fridge and there wasnt any there
i was sure there was some last time i looked

but my problem is the govment never told me i was running out

what do we pay our taxes for?

Yup still got the V5

am i right in thinking you cant get tax without insurance?

its just i gave up driving when i was 19 so i dont remember too much about the ins and outs

Yes, they have to be MOTed and have a modern V5 without the words 'non-transferable' on it.

What sort of moped is it? What would it be worth without it's reg? Do you think you'll be able to get the spares? What sort of reg is it?

The problem with old regs on old, off-the-road vehicles is that often it just isn't worth the cost of getting it back on the road just to remove the reg.

I have two 3 x 3 plates, both of which came off old Land Rovers. One is worth around £1,500 and the other is worth about £500...and around £500 is the best you can get for a 3 x 3 plate unless it spells something/is someone's initials. However, if you ask for a valuation from any company who sells them, they will always quote up to double the value, or often even more :bang:

This company have valued a reg very close to my £500 one for somewhere between £1,800 and £7,000!! They're having a laff!
