Not Port, that's for sure as I no longer drink alcohol but f*** knows what sets it off. It's been niggling since last Thursday but just blew up last night (nae sleep either). Bloody agony.

Nothing worse then being unable to sleep, seriously it's not something know a lot about, but I do know about being in pain
had that since January this year and finally getting back to normal......well for me
You have my sympathy for once :(

Aye, it's nae good. Glad to hear you're getting back to normal tho.

We have a saying up here "auld age disnae come it's sel." Bloody right, the older (not that we're particularly old) you get the more of these things happen, they last longer and take more time to shrug off/get over.

On a brighter note, it'll soon be Xmas;)

If you are a member of Dobbies Garden Club you should have had an invite for tomorrow night (2 Oct) to "celebrate the start of the Christmas Shopping season". OK, it's a £1 entry for charity, but it's the philosophy behind it that gets me. Especially when they don't have what I'm looking for as it's now officially beyond the garden season. :rage:

My wife works in a garden center, in charge of the fancy good etc. She was told last week to get all the Xmas stuff out on display. Far too early imo. Personally I'd ban all Xmas displays advertising etc til 1 December every year.

Ouch! My mate gets it in his foot, likens the pain to putting your foot in a vice, tightening it until you hear a crack then give it another full turn.

Yeh, that's a pretty good assessment. I usually get it in my feet but this is the second time I've had it in my left hand and once in my right knee earlier this year.

Looking at your speshul user title, I bet you wish it was in the other hand!!!

You do have my sympathies though - you can find them between s#1t and syphilis in any dictionary! (The genuine ones are also with you.)

Well ... It's not often I've been able to say I sympathise with you, Brash, but on this occasion you genuinely do have my utmost sympathy. Sorry to hear you're in such pain with is horrible condition. My late father used to get it in his feet and ankles and I've seen how badly it affects sufferers. I hope you're seeking treatment and are back to your usual self (... ...) soon...

If you keep getting bouts of Gout, ask your doctor about putting you on Allopurinol, only problem is, it's long term.

Yeh, I might have to do that it seems to becoming more regular. Long term meds ain't a problem coz I'm on a variety of stuff for life anyway because of the heart attacks.

Thanks for the info(y)

Chronic joint or muscle pain is really nothing to be joked about.
I hope you have relief soon fella.

I sympathise with you I have it from time to time in my feet, problems with walking then.

I usualey take Naproxen tablets and pain killers to help me get about.

Oh thank god

Indomethacin for dealing with the attacks or Allopurinol as a long term prevention.

If you haven't got access to a GP immediately ( both of the above a prescription only) then extract of stinging nettle will help, although nowhere near as efficiently as the drugs.

Examine your diet. You probably need to steer clear of foodstuffs with a high purine level.

Think I'm just having my first gout attack :(

Dr think it's the most likely diagnosis after seeing me - but not ruling out stress fracture so had an x-ray yesterday and going for a blood test tomorrow.

Pain is excruciating first thing in the morning with foot swollen and very tender around the big toe area.

Taking naproxen and treating with ice makes the pain bearable by about 10.30 in the morning.

Hoping this does n't continue for too many more days - it came on on Sunday mid-morning....

Sympathy to you, hateful thing. I find naproxen the best short term. Doctor gives me a script with instructions to take it for two days after the pain goes and keep the rest for quick relief next time whilst waiting for new script.

I solved my gout problem by changing my drinking habits. Since not drinking bitter I have had no reoccurrence.

I used to work with a guy who suffered with gout, but he continued drinking his 6-8 pints of Guinness every night.

No gout for me but I have developed peripheral neuropathy this year and its murder, like someone comes in and jabs me with an electric cattle prod!!
It affects me everywhere too, and I do mean everywhere, sometimes its like a damn lighting strike... but it always takes my breath away and worse still nothing touches it, no pain killers work, my neighbours must think I have sleep tourettes the amount of foul language that comes out of my room, especially in the night!

PS - Good luck and best wishes to all those suffering, I hope you manage to get it sorted quickly.

Flair up in big toe on left foot.....Tears to my eyes. Easy to feel very sorry for yourself fast as its debilitating and can just start from one minute OK then the next feel like amputation would be a major benefit.

A mate recommended me to take COLCHICINE a drug that available over the counter when he lived in Spain or Cyprus ? IIRC He says its a miracle pill for him... I have an appointment to discuss with doctor. Mine has come about by having a very hi protein diet to loose weight for spinal surgery a few years ago and its taken a while to emerge.

Reading up on this drug however makes for interesting reading - it seems its not for everyone and reacts badly with other medication so before thinking about giving it a try check with your doctor, I am sure you know that but just in case...you know in our current climate.

Hope you get some relief from it and a good nights sleep soon!

PS I am not a doctor this post is NOT to be taken as health care advise.

I also suffer from Gout, it comes and after taking Naproxen for a week it will dissapear for some times up to 3/4 months, then it will return.

Hope that yours will dissapear and keep away for a long while.

Trevor

Well the Naproxen did the trick and 10 days after the onset of the pain I was back playing golf!

I won't go back to park running for another couple of weeks as although it's OK to walk on it I think it would be painful to run 5k.
