Got my new sekonic meter

As above got my new L-308S,but i am not happy with it or is it me.
It seems to be causing over exposure,i have been playing about with some product photography using the meter.
But the exposures it is showing that i should be using is way over exposing,am i missing something here.:shrug:
 
Are you using it with the incident dome, with it placed immediately in front of the subject and pointing straight back at the camera (or at the light if the light is in a very different position to the camera?

And is the ISO setting on the meter the same as on the camera?
 
Meter & camera set at 100 iso,using the dome & pointing the meter at the flash & pressing the button on the side of the meter & it just over exposes.:bang:
 
I have only tried the meter using flash tonight,always use manual,auto cordless flash.:thumbs:
 
When i was messing around last night with product photography it would show a meter of say F2.8 which was just washing out the photo if i used that setting.
Taking the shot at around F8.0 was much nearer the mark,so after reading the manual i think i have done what i should have to take a flash reading.:shrug::bang:

Not sure if you still have a problem. Are you metering in ambient mode? You should be in flash mode and then press the button on the side. Make sure you have the shutter speed set to a sensible number and ISO set correctly as well.
 
The iso matches the camera & yes it is in flash mode & you press the button on the side,did all that for hours last night.:bang:
 
If your camera is set to manual and your ISO settings are the same as the meter and you're metering the way Garry suggested, I'm afraid it sounds like it's broken!

Possible:'( but unlikely:) as these things are pretty simple, even if the price of them indicates otherwise...

1. ISO setting on both camera and meter must be the same
2. Meter must be set to flash
3. Camera must be set to manual
4. Meter must be placed as close as possible to subject
5. Meter sensor must be pointed towards flash head or towards camera
6. Meter diffuser must cover sensor
7. Press and release button on side of meter
8. Fire flash
9. set reading (f/value) on camera.

That's about it. I'm suspecting that maybe either 5 or 6 are different to what you're doing - if the diffuser isn't covering the sensor then you'll have an error of around 2.5 stops and if the sensor is pointed at the subject instead of the camera/flash then it will be at least as much - easily done if the head of the meter is rotated on the meter.

If none of that works, buy a Nikon:lol:
 
Going to have my breakfast & have another look at it,if all else fails i can always buy a rope.:lol:
 
Not had a chance to try it outside yet or anything daylight related as it just arrived yesterday but going to have a play around today with it.:)
 
This was set on ambient,just sunshine coming in the window,i have not adjusted exposure or anything,just re-sized,i think the reading is ok for this.

Braved the cold outside & tried these at suggested meter readings,i think they are ok,just resized.

I just started from scratch again,i think possibly it was where my flash stand was at the time,it,s been a long day.:gag::D:thumbs:
