Got my v4 and was gone by 8.15 from phones for me.
I upgraded Vodafone and it was easy. Others weren't so lucky as O2 decided to open their phones at 9!
I'm glad I went in early as although I had reserved my phone they had about 10 phones reserved but only received 3 on voda and 3 on o2. Some are not going to be happy.

I have it backed up now and just waiting for activation.
The phone for me was an upgrade from a 3g, and was out of contract. I paid £219 for the phone and cex have given me £225 for my old 3G, therefore the phone cost me -£6. The 30 a month is more or less what any data contract would be on any phone, so I am happy.
The phone itself is much much more responsive and faster than the 3G. The look and styling is superb. Everything feels solid and well made, not plastic like some phones. Quality for me counts for a great deal, and this has it.
First impressions are very good. The interface on OS 4 is different, but I like it.
As far as the comments on why, same thing etc.
For me, it was like updating my pc. New OS, more memory, both in storage and RAM. More facilities, but same overall feel. ( I tend to update my PC every 3 - 4 years. )

Sorry but I have to say it... That money you paid for the phone could have gone towards payingfor part of your contract. :p The phone still cost you £219!

Sticking with my 3Gs then, at least till contract runs out :)

iPhones and iPads will never play flash if Apple have anything to do with it. They have an irrational hatred of it so if you need to play flash you need a phone from another manufacturer.

Contract doesn't work for me, as I use only around £10 a month :bang:

There's big rumblings coming out that flash support is imminent.

Went to the local O2 shop at about 7:55 (they were opening at 8:02), only to find a queue of about 50 people.

No point in waiting as:
a) it would have taken hours to get served and I had to be at work by 9:00
b) as I was at the end of the queue, chances were they'd have sold out by the time they got to me if I had waited

I've put my name down and when they get new stock in a week or so, they'll let me know.

(p.s. - the guy who was at the front of the queue had been there since 5:00 - bloody idiot!)

For me though it is a very useful and well designed tool. You pays your money.
Liken it to a Kia and a BMW. Both get you to and from.
You can argue this with most products. There will always be basic, cheaper options and there will always be more expensive options.
We make furniture. You can buy a dining table from ikea for £200, or we can make you one for £4000. We sell enough to make it worth while.;)

Where are these rumblings?

Apple have released a statement saying why they don't and won't support flash I haven't seen anything rumouring they are going to contradict themselves

if they did, then people could potentially get apps outside of the app store

I wandered into the Apple store in Milton Keynes this afternoon to have a look at the ipad (again!) and had a quick play on the 4 whilst I was in there.

To be honest, I couldn't see the benefit in upgrading from the 3GS.

The camera looks to be a worthwhile change, and whilst the screen is certainly sharper, I wasn't blown away by it. If I'd already got a 3GS I definately would be sticking with it.
In summary I'd say a nice upgrade if you're due one, but not worth the extra outlay just so you can have the latest bit of hardware.

there must have been 50 people queueing outside the O2 store in Warrington at 11am, a few looked a bit embarrassed to be there, I'd forgotten it was Iphone 4 day< I went over to see who was at the front of the queue expecting to see someone famous signing a book :D

was it an O2 exclusive because none of the other phone shops even looked busy

I think that's a fair review and one I agree with.

Have you had any problems with losing reception when holding the phone? Seems like the new external antennae are causing issues when both are in contact with your hand.

HTC Desire - got one of them instead,, free as an upgrade from Voda and only £20 for a 18mth contract.

Yes, the iphone is becoming an icon and there will be the die hards that will continue to rave about it - and there is plenty to rave about - but there are downfalls and these people seem to gloss over that.

Can I afford one? Yes
Can I justify spending that much and being tied in for 24 mths? Not me.

No signal loss holding the phone. Now activated and working fine. Just need to register it with the sure signal now

i walked by our local o2 shop about 8.00 on my way to work, and they were queing down the street , so thought sod that , ill come back later. went back at lunch , and the queue was just to the front of the shop, so i thought i would try my luck. the guy came over and told us , that the guy in front of me was going to be getting the last one , but was welcome to wait as they had some people turned down. just as he was saying it a guy trying to buy 3 got turned down.

heheh , i got lucky , apparently people started queing at 10 last night

Had it all figured out yesterday... A trip to Carphone Warehouse this morning to grab the new phone but unfortunately, CPW had other ideas... They didn't send a single iPhone 4 to Aberystwyth! Grrr!

Although having said that, I'm actually quite glad I didn't get one now - especially with all the problems that are coming to light. I think my money's going on either the Android powered Samsung Galaxy S or the HTC Desire...

Not a chance tbh...

I'm pretty certain Steve Jobs would be eating his hat before Flash appeared on iPhones and iPads.

Sorry but what does that have to do with my post?

I'm not commenting on the quality of the phone, just that that is a lame way of saying the phone isn't going to cost you anything. It would work if you had to give your phone back at the end of a contract as standard as most people won't have one to sell, doesn't work when a large number of people can get the same amount for their phone and offset it off their contract. :p

The phone is still costing you £219 whatever way you look at it. :p

(It's not something I'm specifically picking on because it's an iPhone either. Most of the decent top end smartphones are a similar price (contract and up front cost) and the argument doesn't work there either. :))

why not just wait util they release a problem free batch?

Dont got for an HTC. my experience with them is poor, as is my brother's. thats on two different models too.

At the risk of this turnng into a handset battle (debate), surely it's down to choice and personal preference. One persons bad experience is anothers dream. I will persaonlly be moving from the 3GS to the HTC Desire this September when my contract with o2 comes up for renewal.

Personally I always look for something new when renewing, and the iPhone 4 has just changed it's skin imo.

The Android market maybe 30,000 apps short of Apple but it's still a growing market with a significant amount of handsets out there on the market to choose from.

Just sayn'

I was going off generally there.
I'm not worried about the cost. If you have to ask the price, and get hung up on it, you probably can't afford it.
Lots of things cost in life, many recurring.
I'm sure I would have the same thoughts as you on a smoking forum. To me people who smoke are throwing money away. Each to their own.
What is annoying is people banging on about costs. You either want one and pay for it, or you don't.

Got to agree with this - the 3GS with OS4 works superbly well - the updated OS seems to have loads of small but effective improvements. It seems smoother, faster, and both call quality and bluetooth seem significantly better.

I've just been in to Mac Store to have a drool, and yes, it is brilliant. BUT the older 3G/3GS design I prefer to hold....4 seems a litte 'sharp' on the corners almost...

ha ha, glad i wasn't in the queue then, i left the queue at 8.30 and grabbed one of the three they had at Phones 4 U.

No, it wasn't just O2 that had them, they just had (a lot) more then everyone else. Like i said, P4U only had three on O2, 4 (i think) on Voda and were expecting a few to come in at 11am on Orange.

I live in Alkrington, which is near middleton unfortunately, and there was a Queue of around 7 people at the 02 shop at 9.00am, all the other scrotes where either outside waiting to rob them, or milling around the bl**ding pound shops. very little interest here were still in the 1930S recession

Im warming to the new shape more and more...

Got mine t'other day, absolutely love it. The screen is just brilliant and its so damn fast! I was in the Regent Street fiasco which was annoying to say the least but well worth it! £499 well spent...

After 3 days with the iPhone 4 I went back to my 3G to set it up from my Dad, it looks so dated already...

Funny you say that. I was playing on a friends 3GS at work the other day, getting myself all worked up for the iPhone 4.

Then, after spending a few days with my iPhone 4 I came in to work and compared to my friends 3GS and was surprised just how improved the 4 looks, espcially the screen which I thought looked fine on the 3GS until I saw them side by side :gag:

Cool. :)

I totally agree with you on the last point. iPhones aren't really any more expensive than other high end smartphones, people don't seem to realise that however and pick on the iPhone being particularly expensive without realising the cost of non dumb phones.

See this is one point I can both agree and disagree on at the same time. Side by side the screens are certainly different and the 4 is a nice improvement. But having used the 4 first, then returning to my ipod touch (same screen as the 3gs I understand) at no point did I feel that the quality of it was suddenly poor.

At the end of the day its still a piddly little screen, and I still think the 3GS has a fantastic screen quality. For me, it doesn't really justify the cost of an upgrade.

I had quite a few HTC devices and never had a problem with any of them...

Im in the middle of my contract now co can not upgrade yet but I will be going for anoither HTC(desire or its upgrade)

I have t o say that new iphone looks nice but it is not worth its price and monthly line rental costs that are for it...not to mention 24 months contract!!
