You need to change your sig ;)

Something very appealing about the images from the 5D. Congrats on the purchase

:thumbs:Nice one Rick!! it was a long time comming eh!!

You can see so much detail in that tree... typical 5D.. nice..

I was out with mine today but it was getting late and i was in a forest!! dont think i'll show this time!! lol..

Yep, change your sig, lock your wanted post (unless you want another)...those are the easy bits. Wiping the grin off your face takes a little more effort.

Nice one Rick...even if your lenses just got smaller.:cuckoo:

See you soon.

Bob

Nice ;)

Half of me is tempted to rush out and buy a 5D. While the other half (my other half, not the other half, I mean the other half of me...oh you know what I mean) is screaming 'wait for the 5DMk11/3D/6D/7D or whatever the heck they are gonna call it to come out.

Mid Jan is the latest on the grapevine, give it 6months for its first price drop then 'BAM' it's mine :)

Whats that I can hear {feint voice} {buuuyyy mmmmeeee nnnooowwwwww}

Oh god, I'm going mad!

Get it now WW.. your going to miss out on 6 months worth of great images!! .. it'll still sell well when you want to upgrade...

cheers guys it was worth the wait , sig is now changed ;). you do realise its all your fault bob

Not so.....I've dug up some old posts from this thread.....

See....what did anyone do to help me. My mission now is to get the rest of you one by one:naughty:...you just happened to be the second victim Rick......Steveinspain received some encouragement but his resistance crumbled too quickly for me to get much satisfaction..

Right, heres one from the day i got it...

Its had a little sharpen and curves..

How about the 40D Chewy?? got mine the other day and its really nice!!!

I know what you mean.. but for a stop gap till the 5D Mkll comes??

Iv never used the 30D, but the 40D is great in the hand!! its very similar to the 5D.. it sounds and feels solid!! and its soo fast compared to the 5D!!! its like comparing an old Lee Enfield bolt action rifle to a GPMG!!! iv not been able to test either camera properly as yet cos of the weather and iv been i'll!! BLoody toncils!! but i cant wait to get out with them..

I'm going through the same "I fancy upgrading my 350D because it feels too compact, and I find myself frowning at the noise at high ISO settings.....to what?" 5D vs 40D dilemma....I keep asking myself the following questions:

a) Am I 'good enough' to get the best out of a 5D?
b) If the answer to a) is 'No', will it help me get to a better standard more quickly, due to the higher quality of images it produces making me want to improve?
c) Would buying a 40D now be a better option, so I can benefit from the 14-bit processing, and perhaps consider a FF upgrade when the 5D II/6D etc is released next year?
d) Will the current new 5D minus cashback price be bettered by that much next year once the new one is announced?
e) Will my wife notice? :D

And to top it off, my Dad has just phoned to seek my advice on buying a DSLR, and is leaning towards a 40D too :)

Help me, TP folks, please help....

Do you need a 5D?? its a great work horse, and it'll produce wonderfull results but only if you know what you're doing, but the 40D is at least as good if not better in usability.. its well set out and has some great functions on it.. some not found on the slightly dated 5D..
I think you'd be very happy with the 40D and its cheaper too.. iv got both atm and love them both for different reasons.. They both have a smashing feel to them, very solid, but dont forget that the 40 also has some weather sealing that the 5D has'nt.. i need to get out and take some picture with these cameras and really see what they have to offer as iv only had them a week or so, Iv just upgraded from the 400D, even with the 40D it is an UPGRADE!!!.. you wouldnt be dissapointed.. this is only my opinion and im not the most experienced but i know what i like..

Congratulations Rick

Now all you need to do is get your boy in the tree for a really unusual picture.

I did save up for one and then bought studio equipment instead so had to start all over again :)

Hopefully when I do eventually get one I will not feel the need to upgrade again for some time

Christine

Thanks Tony . I'd forgotten about the weather sealing aspect. Not directly because of that, but I am leaning towards the 40D , as I think it would suit me better as an 'all rounder', as I'm at a stage in my photography when I haven't decided upon a particular avenue on which to focus. That'll also free up some funds for some more 'L' or EX glass :)

i took my 40 to a friends house today, i told him i was getting it and he said " i wont get one, i dont need it" anyway, when i left his house he had decided to get me to order him one!! lol. u wont go far wrong with ti... didnt you say ur dads getting one? it'll be usefull if you have the same camera..

I shoot mostly landscape, so I want to get the full range out of the lens if possible. The 30d was great, just hear so many great things about the 5d. I don't really need the extra fps, just need to make it waterproof, so maybe a Mark 1 ;)

Dont forget Chewy, if you go the 1D route, and you want full frame.. its the 1Ds .... cha- ching!!! lol...:bang:

I love my 5D, the image resolving is stunning & given the choice again I'd definitely go for one again (over a 40D or waiting for the replacement).
For the kind of IQ that you get, I'd rather throw a towel over the camera & lens in bad weather than go with an alternative imho.
I would not, however, turn my nose up at a 1DS MKII

so far with mine I love every thing except there is a bit of dust in the veiw finder :gag: every thing seems eazy to use and very smooth

What aspects/features to the 5D are there, if any, that you don't like, moomike?

Not many to be honest & my other camera is a 1D so it's got a lot to live up to.

File size is a major PITA as the files are so packed with detail (counter productive I know ) make sure you have lots of space if you're a photo hoarder

One other thing is that you need special eclipse fluid to clean the sensor as the usual stuff can muck up the coatings on the glass.
I don't really find the 3fps limiting either as it encourages timing & actually thinking about a shot before you take it.

I'd definitely recommend one tbh, especially with people getting rid of them to fund upgrades to the next one whenever that may be
