WOW!!!
This phone has blown me away :woot:
Without a doubt, THE best phone I have ever owned.

Everything about it is amazing.
Movies are crystal clear, and music sounds outta this world.
Had a few Sony Ericssons, and the music player on the N95 is shedloads better.

Any N95 owners, feel free to contribute towards this thread!!

(An incredibly happy) Andy

What's it like at making phonecalls? ;)

I have the N75 or whatever it is, the model below, and was after an N95...now I'm after the N96.

So, is your phone far better, cheaper and just generally not as lame as the iPhone? (a mate and I spent 2 hours ripping on another mate because our free phones do as much as the phone he paid nearly £200 quid for, just because it's got the apple logo on it BAH:razz:)

I upgraded from the N73, which was jolly nice, but NOWHERE near as good as the 95.

The N95 8GB is pretty much the same sort of price (second hand).
And to be fair, I've never used an iphone so I can't really compare.
I've used an ipod for a bit, and the Nokia sounds as good if not better......

I paid £195 for my 95, and you can get the 1st edition iphone for a similar price. The newer iphone is somewhat dearer.

I got a N95 8gb, but free on my contract, does everything i want in one the gps and mp3 player get alot of use, particularly as i use 2 vehilcles one for work, one is mine.

Hi Russ.
Mind if I ask a quick question?
Probably a bit daft, but if I use the GPS/satnav, will I get charged for it?

I can see me having a £1000 phone bill soon

I've had one a while now and am alittle bored of mine lol, i dont really use any features now only calls and messages

i will end up getting the N96 when i get my free upgrade though

i was amazed by everything al frist though, it seems to have everything you could want in a phone

Good question, as the GPS does connect to the internet for searches etc, you have to pay for the voice guidance feature.

Under my contract i get free data transfer internet in part of monthly bill.

I think you can choose not to connect to the internet for searches, and relay on the installed maps instead.

I have one and not a bad phone, would probably be a hell of a lot better if i knew how to use it :D i only use for making calls and txt but it has got a half decent camera on it which means i always have a camera in my pocket wherever i go, what i don't like is it tends to slide open when it's in your jeans pocket.

Andy, Russ is right I use the GPS on my N95 and don't use the voice navigation as it is chargeable. Just set it not to connect to the network, it will ask you when you start it up. Great phone and excellent camera. I've just popped some images on my flickr of the Natural History Museum if you want to take a gander at what it is capable of ;)

what's the difference between the 8GB and the 2GB model? What I'm getting at is if I chuck a bigger memory card in is there any advantage in the 8GB model?

The difference is the MicroSD card basically. Means you can store more MP3 tracks or pics/video.

The main issue with the N95 is the she-ite battery. It goes from 3 bars to flat in about 10 seconds. If you know about it, you just keep it charegd before going out for the day.

Be sure to get a cover for the LCD screen as that will get loads of hammer. I have a cheapo one off Ebay and my N95 looks pristine when I remove it from the cover - 12 months old now.

Download NokiaMaps from the Nokia website and you can then install your own maps for different countries. Voice SatNav is only about £5 for a month so is brill when you go on holiday...you can buy it just for the trip.

Google the N95 related forums as there's heaps of hints, tips etc on there

Hi Alby
Crumbs, they are great shots.
It sure is a very capable camera........

Had a play with the GPS, which is also very good.
There's only one annoyance with it for me, and I'm going to try to explain!!!!
When I'm using my TomTom, the arrow representing me (or the car!!) points in the same direction of travel. This doesn't seem to be the case on the Nokia.

Does that make sense??

Dod, the 8GB version has a slightly bigger screen, I know that for sure.
Not so sure about anything else.
I'd guess that the music/video software is different and improved.

b****r, too slow again!!!!!

Hi Andy, yes I know what you mean and you do get used to it. I tend to zoom it out a bit and use it like a map and turn the phone around but I only tend to use it on foot as the Tom Tom blows it away of course.;)

i don't get data useage with my contract, so is there away to use the it as a gps/ sat nav system?

also would really like to load some games on it, anyone know how?

My missus has a n96, it runs like a pile of crud even with all the updates, and the camera is poor.

Hiya matey.
You can use GPS without getting charged yes.
I've found a nice forum, dedicated to the N95, and from there I've learn't that if you turn the A-GPS function off, there's no charge. Oh and don't use voice navigation-there's a charge for that too.

The A-GPS uses a tiny amount of data just to connect to the satellites.
Otherwise it can take quite a long time to get a decent signal.

(All the above is 'apparently' as far as I'm concerned please note!!!)

My advice would be to not use voice, and turn A-GPS off.
There's a neat little trick you can do to connect to the satellites uber quick.
This is what I'm doing, so I'll let you know in a months time if there's a charge!!!!!!
If you wanna no more, let me know........

Don't even go down the N96 road with me :bonk:
Took me long enough to take the N95 plunge.
And even then I had to sacrifice a nice new shiny lens for it

:D

would really like to no more

which application are you using? or is it a downloaded/ transfered one onto the phone?

are you using it as a gps/sat nav to route find on it's own, or with a reciever?

i'm with voda and no data package (bit of a shame i know, but trying to cut costs ;-) )

Sorry mate - totally forgot about this thread!!!!!
I'm using the pre installed Nokia maps.
Go to tools > settings > general > positioning > positioning methods, then disable assisted GPS and network based.
This then if I remember correctly, will (SHOULD!) result in no chrges being made to your account.

To connect to the satellites quicker, do this:
Open the Nokia maps application.
Then hit the menu button, then tools > connectivity > GPS data.
Then press the options button, open navigation > options > satellite status.
(Provided there's good signal reception.....) you should be a list of numbers, with bards next to them. When a (or some of) the bars turn black, the GPS has locked on to a satellite.

Then exit the menu, go back to Nokia maps, and you'll see there's a good, locked on signal.

Quite long winded I know, but it appears to work, and when you get used to it, it only takes a few seconds. Much quicker than waiting for the signal, and saves costing any dosh using the network to connect.

Hope this all makes sense!!!!!
Gimme a shout if you need anymore help.
(Not that I'm a N95 Guru or owt......!!!!!!!!!!!)

sweet, thanks andy fozzy

seem to pick up a signal just at one part of the house, so switched on.
just need to get it working in a moving car etc. (but as i'm late in the morning to work and after work just wanna get home, not my top priority to find directions to and from work lol)

hopefully don't get charged for it

I have the N95 8gb - simply the best phone I've ever had. It's a bit large compared to my previous phone, but there's not much it can't do, I think receive TV is the only thing it's short of, and there's no reception available in the UK anyway I believe. The built in speakers play music at a pretty impressive level, but even better though headhphones. FM radio reception is great too.

I have possibly the worst phone in the world (Nokia E61) and will be able to upgrade in 6 weeks time. Was thinking about the N95 and I think this thread may have sold me on it. I will probably only use it for making calls + texts + email, but as it will be free on contract and it's a nice looking phone, why not? :D

it's capable of so much more, but i'm no good with computers, programmes etc.

but a friend has a game simulator on it with some good games, which i want to do to

I think you need to be careful about the sat nav etc. I use Google maps, on which you can plot a route, but the way it works is you continually download new sections of map as your journey progresses so you do incur a download cost unless it's covered in your phone package. I have 250mb a month as part of my package which I couldn't possibly use so I'm thinking of halving it.

Nokia Maps is pre-installed, and if you turn the APS thingy of all it does is use the map info stored on the phone. But yes Google works just how you describe being an internet map. Nokia maps can down load extra info though to what is stored on the phone, if you have internet browsing enabled.

It's very rare that I'll use the satnav anyway, but I've had a tinker about with it, just for the fun!!!
It doesn't have a patch on my TomTom (obviously). But for a phone, it's pretty darn impressive.

I'll be inspecting my bill this month for any charges :police:

Hey Fabs, what's wrong with the E61 then?
Looks like a neat bit of kit........

I'm still in awe of this amazing phone.
The film and music quality is just stunning.

Gotta figure how to put DVD's onto it next

The buttons are way too small, it's not comfortable to hold and at the moment it seems to be on the verge of giving up the ghost. Most of the time it won't receive incoming calls. I have to keep removing the battery and sim card, then replacing them, but that's is just a temporary fix and sometimes doesn't work at all! Don't even ask why I chose it in the first place, probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

I've just dug out an old Motorola V3X and transferred the sim card over, just to tide me over until I can upgrade.

Yikes
Sounds like a nightmare mate.
I came very close to getting one of these. Some chappy at a car boot sale had one all boxed up, all accessories, good nick. Wanted £60 for it.
But there's something not right about giving a boot seller £60 for a phone, so I didn't :D

Go for the 95 mate, you won't be sorry I'm sure!!

I just got me one of these> Linky
Nice. Comes with a USB lead, and mains charger (although the charger doesn't fit directly into the phone, only the dock).
Saves it rattling around on the desk while syncing and/or charging!!!

I just stick the n95 on charge when I'm in the car. I rarely have to charge it at home at all.

I'd probably do the same - but my car charger is knackered!!
They are only a few quid on fleabay......

Just got to get through the next six weeks! :bang:

Six weeks sure is a long time mate.....
Just stayed focused, be positive, look to the future.
You can do it, I know you can!
We're all here for you mate

:lol::lol::lol:

On a nergative note - this phone just might do your head in getting to grips with all it can do.
