I have handled a Sony D230-liked it very much slightly smaller, ideal for my hands the Canon is a bit bulky for me.
I have seen a D350 body only for sale and am a bit in love,
I assume it will be in the same format basically as the D230. Am I right?
Also as it is only the body I can concentrate on the right lenses for me.
What do you think?:)

Welcome to TP :)

Canon 350D is quite old now, low pixel count and poor screen. There is lots of choice - depends on your budget. Sony is good, also Nikon and newer Canons. They are all very similar format.

How much are you planning to spend? And anything particular you want to shoot?

The Sony's are good cameras with image stabilization built into the body. Be careful comparing the newer cameras with the older models as Sony changed the ergonomics slightly recently. Also go into a shop and compare the feel of Nikon, Pentax and Olympus cameras as you may prefer the feel of these in your hand, and make sure that whatever system you buy into will have the lenses you need. Sometimes buying a camera with the kit lens is the cheapest way to get started as it is generally cheaper than buying both separately.
