Ok so i found this at a local flea market, a BPM bellows kit with a nikon adaptor for a tenner. So it came home with me with a view to it making it easier to scan some negs in without getting the scanner out of the cupboard and setting it all up. This will let me do 120's and 25mm negs.

It seems to work fine and ive set it up thus...

Although the only lens i have with an aperture ring is a 24mm which isnt ideal. Ive a 50mm which fits but then the 105macro and 135 are too big to fit in the rig. The part that is confusing me is this bit that came with it, im not sure if it was part of the kit or something that the owner just had kicking about and included it in the bundle...

it doesnt seem to fit on anything, although my lenses go on it with the adaptor....

I was assuming that it would go on the end of the lens and clip over the film holder to give an enclosed dark area, but i cant see how it clips onto anything. So im left as in shot 2 with a lot of air and light between the lens and the neg which im not sure will give the best results. Anyone got anything similar and can reassure me that im doing it right or point and mock my idiocy here?

isn't it a lens hood so the thumb screw would tighten it on the front element with the square end towards the film holder, just a guess:)

Looks like a bellows lens hood to me... (Adjustable lens hood, so that you can optimise the shielding. Lee make one, which I have; I also have one for my Mamiya RB/RZ).

hmm......I don't think its a bellows lens hood, that metal frame seems too elaborate for the rim of a lens hood, it looks as though it could clip on to the bellows end plates to extend it or something ??......I dunno but it definitely looks like it does something, mebbe a bit of T + Shift

oh wait !........does it fit between the front of the lens and the plate/bracket that holds the neg, so the camera is shooting the back lit neg only, no stray light

oh wait !......that makes it a lens hood......lol.......nearly

infact, that makes it what niko said...

:coat:

There's a Mamiya lens hood here. It certinly has some points of resemblance to this week's mystery object.

i dont think its a hood as the lens only goes on it one way round. I just think its something the owner had spare and threw it in the box. The tabs around the edge dont seem to line up with anything.
