Anyone had any experience with these and a consumer SLR (Nikon D40 w/ 18-70mm, 18-200mm & Sony a350 w/ 18-105mm, 50mm, 10-24mm) with relatively large range (though nothing larger/heavier than a Nikkor 18-200mm ~25cm extended and 2KG?!).

I've tried testing in a few situation today and it seems solid enough, but I'd be interested to hear other's opinions of this with a weighty lens?

Used mine with a D80 - it broke after I used it half a dozen times. Wasn't using any particularly large lenses either. I have generally heard good things about the Gorillapods, but this is just my experience...

Have had it for about two weeks or so. I'm usually putting a D90 and the 17-55f2.8 lens on it, so it is a little front heavy but holds up good if you position it carefully as a tripod. Wrapped around things it does better.

It can do the 70-200 f2.8 as well because the balance is different. Not too sturdy in the wind when used as a traditional tripod.

I haven't tried it with the grip attached.

I'm using a Manfrotto 488RC2 clamp on it too which doesn't help in terms of stability but great for positioning the camera as it's a ballhead.

And the above took the pic below ;)

I kinda wished I had this for my honeymoon to Turkey. Wouldn't have had to bring my Vanguard tripod over there. But then again, I have my current Manfrotto 190 because the Vanguard broke over there ;)

Thanks for your comments, that looks fantastic Markk, perfect for my needs. Hopefully I dont have the same issues as you ldkb!!!

I'm ordering one now

Hope you enjoy it ;)

I use the SLR Zoom, I have a d90 with Sigma 24-70 and it holds it well.

I sometimes use it for sports too and put the legs into my chest for extra support. :D

It arrived today, looks good so far! I forgot to get the ball head/clip atatchment though, so its a little bit of a pain to screw it on at the moment. I'll have to pick that up tomorrow.

just been teseting it around the house so far!

I tried my D3 with the 24-70 on the SLR it folded into itself even before I touched it haha.
Think thatmight have been pushing it a little

cheers guys,

I was thinking of getting the one that supports up to 3000g
(6lb) but if it is not that stable I wont bother.
