Hi all,
I'm interested in buying a GoPro for sports events and getting as confused as to what model to buy and to be honest i think it's going to come down to budget rather purchasing a particular one.

I understand GoPro's probably have the name, reputation and probably the most popular brand but would anyone recommend another brand to look at? Isaw Edge, Xtreme(??) etc

The 1080P and 60FPS ...... are they a minimum for decent footage or is 720 30fps sufficent just in your opinion?

I use a GoPro 4 silver set to 720p and 120fps, I really don't need 1080p
 
I am in the same boat, missus wants one for holidays and on her bike.

I reckon its the HERO+ with LCD
 
GoPro 4 Silver is hard to beat in that form factor. I've a few of the cheaper clones (Xiaomi, SJ etc) and although good I find the GoPro much better in every respect. I've spent more on buying the clones than the GoPro...
 
I'd consider 1080p default HD footage nowadays.
The Hero4 easily does 4K and you can get really good screengrabs from that - usefulness not to be underestimated.
60FPS lets you slow things down to half speed which minimises camera shake.
That's their one big Achilles heel - no inbuilt stabilisation so you will initially be horrified by how much you record is unusable.
In a lot of situations one of the new gimbals works brilliantly, but a camera with stabilisation built in might be better option if you didn't already have a gopro.
 
the hero 4 black 4k version has no rear touch lcd screen its extra.hence i got the hero 4 silver
 
720p is fine for 90% of what people film on action cams as it will in most cases only ever be watched once or twice by the person who shot it and then confined to storage so at least it will waste less space! The other 10% is much harder to shoot and requires a skilful editor but might actually deliver something enjoyable to view
 
From gearbest, mine looks very genuine and the final cam WiFi app is great for checking what's in the viewfinder
 
I'm happy with the product I bought for £33, when/if it fails I can afford another.
 
If budget is a concern, the SJ4000 is a good GoPro alternative. Very usable and good value for money considering the price difference.

thing is fake in this sense only means not made by the same company as the SJ4000 - who are themselves a chinese manufacturer with all the same quality control issues etc of their competitors , so yours is probably as good as the 'genuine' article and tbh you've paid a similar price as i paid for my sj4000 anyway.

they are all chinese knock offs of the original go pro - but for the money are quite a good deal so long as you don't expect the longlevity
