GOPRO HERO4 Action Camcorder VS Gitup1

Folk will still buy the GoPro because of the name.

I've got SJCams an SJ4000 ~£60 and an M10 ~£44 used as dash cams. The first is a pure GoPro clone with wifi, the M10 is smaller, more of a cube shape no wifi. Both high res, wide angle and come with all the mounting options you could ever want in the box.

True but having seen many examples of 4k v 1080p videos I can't see the value in paying so much extra for 4k. Doesn't make the video more interesting, there are few decently sized 4k screens about (relatively) because 4k broadcast content is scarce, it's pointless watching such high res on a small (laptop/pc) screen so imo it comes down to the same thing as buying for the name alone.

I suppose there will be a few genuine reasons for some folk to prefer 4k, but for joe public, bin the GoPro.

Git 2 is excellent as action cam not so good as a dashcam as it uses a different sensor

You won't be disappointed with the Git 2 , I see it as a hidden gem )-:

Of course its horses for courses. Most people would look at our last set of holiday photos and not know/wouldn't care which were taken with the sub £100 Panasonic p&s or with the 1Dmk3.

Using a high resolution such as 2.7 or 4k allows far greater options in post production. Not least the opportunity to edit in 1080 or 720 and 'zoom' into the footage and retain quality. For example, use a gopro hero 4 at a gig (the sound recording is very good) in 4k from a distance from the stage and it makes a massive difference to be able to zoom or crop the footage.

Sounds like a valid reason for buying one, not one most of us would have though.

Yes, that was just one example but the principle remains the same for many other situations too, whenever you are a distance away from the potential subject with a fixed lens. Using a drone, time-lapse video of a landscape or just as a dash cam.

Ah, I was looking at 2nd hand Go pro's but this has made me think. Where would you recommend buying from?

Depends on what you are going to use it for the Git1 is better in low light the Git2 has IS and a slightly better daytime picture.

Just for following the kids around and general 'fun' type things, nothing specific. Probably the 2 then with the IS and daylight improvement.

I just got a Git 2 last week, cracking bit of kit. My son has a Gopro 4 Black and I would say the 2 is not that far behind. The build quality is very good and it has lots of features. It is compatible with all the gopro mounts and cases and with Sjcam batteries.
I paid £105 for it with the "pro packaging" which means lots of mounts.

Perfect thanks.
