The above has been announced and is available from 13 September apparently, anyone looking to buy one of these? I've ordered one as my GoPro Hero3+ is now very long in the the tooth.

Me - but my last GoPro was a Session, and I'm seriously puzzled by the reviews of the 12 - there has been some progress :)

I want to use it in conjunction with a Panasonic MFT camera that does 4K video. However, the specs seem to indicate that the GP12 can only do 2.7K in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
I'd place the order tomorrow, if I knew you could have to shoot at least 4K in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
I think you can, and I'm just misunderstanding something, but I can't work out what it is.

The clincher for me is the gyros in the GP12. They provide a file that tells software (like the free Gyroflow app) the orientation of the camera. This can improve stabilisation. Better yet, if you have the GP12 in the accessory shoe of a conventional camera, you can stabilise that that video in Gyroflow too, using the GP12's orientation file.

You can shoot long-shot and close-up at once, and stabilise them both really well.

Compared to the Hero 3+ the difference is probably night and day -- well, I sincerely hope so -- I'll let you know when it arrives, although it is not yet despatched. Supposed to be sent on or before the 13th September.

I think you'll find it is a big difference. I'm also a big Session fan (a GoPro5) and wondered how much difference there was as it's tricky to tell since most reviewers compare similar eras of camera. It's a GoPro11 being compared here but thought it was interesting to see the improvement:

I initially went with a DJI Osmo Action 2 since I thought it would be closer to the Session but found its design is useless so went for the Action 3 and do like the magnetic clamp system. Still not sure about the electronic stabilisation but I can't seem to find a gimbal that can mount newer cameras unfortunately but impressed with the waterproofing and been trying underwater videos and photos this week.

I got the action 4 recently and it seems a big improvement on the Action 3 - considering it's not a year since that came out some really good updates not least bigger sensor and far better in low light.
They just did firmware update with pre-record feature so you can have it in standby constantly caching up to 1 minute before you press record.
This is very good for catching lightning strikes I found last night.
It has GPS data too not sure how exactly that would be used.

I wouldn't have bought the Action 3 this year if I knew the Action 4 was coming out with the bigger sensor but that's technology for you, I'll pick up an Action 4 if I see one for a good price since the Action 3 will do for now.

I just got a go pro hero 11 black, mainly to use whilst out on my bike. Now I'm looking at trying to learn about video editing but I'm not paying anymore to Adobe lol
I'd have a look at Davinci Resolve as the free version is incredibly capable and it's extremely well supported so you'll find lots of help if you need any guides or how tos.
