I have forgotten my password for a googlemail e-mail account - keeps asking for password or part of password /previously used passwords - only ever had 1 and forgotten it - reset password it says then asks for your password again!!! so unable to reset - any help?? Thanks

If you search for forgotten Gmail password there are various way to reset it, maybe one of the methods will work for you.

They should have your phone No. and they'll text a verification code.

I don't seem to be able to get past "enter password" therefore cannot access e-mail account to go into security etc

Are you sure you are on the proper gmail website?

Yes, cannot get any further than them asking me for password - try another way - still asks for password!!!

or search: sign in google

this and/or this ........

That's what I'm using David - entering e-mail account, next password - if you don't remember password put in previous or best guess password (no idea) can't get any further

but if you click on: Forgot password

then maybe: Try another way

they should send a verification code.

Done that David - try another way asks for password/previously used password of which I have no idea!!!

Can’t help directly, but one thing that popped into my mind - complete long shot, but you are entering the correct email address ??

just wondering if this is why it won’t let you go further, cos the email address doesn’t exist ??

Complete long shot like I say, but…

e-mail address is correct Andy - but hasn't been used for about 10 years and perhaps that's the reason?

It could be but I have one that hadn’t been used for 10 years and it was still working when I tried.

From what you say about “forgotten password” I guess you haven’t set a recovery email address or phone number in which case you could be stuffed.

I notice you write googlemail not gmail though it it shouldn‘t make any difference. However googlemail was @googlemail.co.uk because of a chancer’s patent dispute so are you using .com or .co.uk ?

I'm fairly sure Richard I haven’t set a recovery email address or phone number - but will try gmail/co.uk etc as you suggested - thanks

It’s probably a typo but it’s dot not slash, before gmail ;).

I began to think I’d misremembered the googlemail.co,uk thing or confused with Microsoft’s various email addresses which definitely did have both endings as searching on the web seems to find even Google denying that it existed however there are a few references to it like this one:

googlemail.co.uk, googlemail.com, gmail.co.uk & gmail.com are registered by Google having the following name servers:

So I think it did exist ;(,

There are also a couple of reference to googlemail instead of gmail causing authentication problems (though they shouldn’t).

Other possibility. I wonder if you’ve misremembered your address and maybe had to spell it differently or add numbers? If you have any of the old emails it would be easy to check.

I seem to remember getting a notification that if the gmail address hasn’t been used it will be closed down or similar. It struck a chord with me as years ago I set one up that I exclusively used for studies, and I realised I would lose it all. I let it go. I suspect you have lost access.

It definitely existed. Someone has an advert in a local shop window that uses it. I didn't get a reply when I tried it, though, and might re=try using gmail instead.
