Yes
I hope this is the right forum.

I use Google Picassa and I hear it's being replaced. How do I upgrade, or does it do it itself?

Also Is there an od version of Lightroom I can get where I don't have to pay £8 a month?

Picassa is ending, it moved over to google photos if I recall correctly.

There is no upgrade path to lightroom as google have nothing to do with Adobe - that said if you have the images you can import them into lightroom, but be aware that lightroom does not alter the original image, what it does is apply adjustments which can then be exported as another image.

I personally would suggest lightroom as I find it easy and £8 a month is pretty cheap but I expect you can get old copies on ebay or here in the classifieds, but if you guy a new camera it may well not support the raw images - check before buying.

Thanks for your reply. It's on my hard drive of my pc, will Picassa stay as it is, or will I have to move over to google photos myself?

From Wikipedia:

Discontinuation
On February 12, 2016, Google announced that the Picasa desktop application would be discontinued on March 15, 2016, followed by the closure of the Picasa Web Albums service on May 1, 2016.

Google stated that the primary reason for retiring Picasa was that it wanted to focus its efforts "entirely on a single photos service" the cross-platform, web-based Google Photos. While support for the desktop version of Picasa is ending, Google has stated that users who have downloaded the software, or who choose to download it prior to the March 15th deadline will still be able to use its functionality, albeit with no support from Google.

The beauty of lightroom is that you can buy a really old copy for peanuts and then upgrade to v6 for about £58 and no monthly sub!
The idea of "renting" software has never had any appeal to me.

If you are using picasa on your desktop, it will continue working.
Grab the 3.9 installation executable from google now, so that if/when you upgrade your PC, you can re-install the most up to date version. It's not going to stop working, at least not unless there is a windows update that causes it to stop.

Thaks for your replie's.

For lightroom.

Change the "I want to buy" from full to upgrade and in the next dropdown click which version of lightroom you are upgrading from, then click on save changes.

For Picasa.
