Google Nexus 7

looks awesome, puts Kindle Fire to shame IMO. great price with fantastic hardware, not sure about screen resolution, but at 7 inch it shouldn't be a problem.

couple of questions. can i connect my 400d and potentialy a 5dmk3 to it, upload raw files to it and view and pp them on the fly?

if the answer is yes then whenever i travel all i need is this tablet instead of a laptop. what u think?
you can use eye-fi, there are no SD card port nor are there any USB host port. :(

post processing capabilities depend on what apps are available.

you better bet is an iPad. there is camera connection kit, and there is also a large range of post processing apps including Apple's iPhoto which functions similar to Lightroom (unfortunately doesn't export to Lightroom)

i use my ipad 2 to replace my laptop. saved me a LOT of weight and bulk. best part is the ipad battery lasts 1 day of constant use (managed to get battery down to 30% 1 day, it was never off from 9 to 17 in a meeting), 2 or 3 days of intensive use.

why do you need an ipad or this nexus 7 if you've got a Transformer tablet?

i personally don't get this 7 inch class of tablets. well, i never get those 5 inch phones either......

I bought the Ipad but never got on with the "Apple Way", my wife uses it for WordsWithFriends and I use the TF300 for real stuff :D

The Nexus 7 is ideal portable browsing / gaming size and is ideal for handbags / briefcases (Much lighter than a 10" tablet)

and it sits nicely between my Samsung GS2 - TF300 in size ;)

It looks good.

No hardware connectivity and no 3g but in this day an age they are not always a pre-requisite anyway (what with wi/eye-fi etc)

Ideal competiition to the kindle fire and ideal for book readers who want a tablet too (two birds one stone)
Good hardware behind hit so it has longevity too.

really tempted to get the 8GB version at £159!

BBC says $199 - ~£127 for this, if Google do the decent thing and give us a straight dollar/pound price.

Im really thinking about getting one of these, perfect for keeping with me at all time in my bag, but would be nice to have maybe 3G and a card slot tho. Not a deall breaker but nice to have the card slot.

Any idea if it will have USB host for plugging in flash drives and cards?

Must say that for £160 I'm tempted. That's a very fair price for this kind of device.

Ebuyer have 858 available for pre-order. 16G version only....

This.

Plus it won't take long for it to be rooted and all sorts of goodies to appear over at XDA :)

and all these people comparing it to an ipad....grrr....chalk and cheese, it should be compared to the other low end tablets, including the kindle fire. Nothing else.

Product images show only a micro USB socket, so I doubt it unless the mod lot add it.

It being micro USB doesn't mean anything. Samsung android phones and other tablets have micro USB but support USB host mode.you just need to get a USB host cable for a few pounds.

Trouble is, as soon as you root it you lose access to a lot of Google Play features.

Google are obviously trying to kill off the rest of the Android tablet market by selling the Nexus 7 at a loss. Good news for potential purchasers in the short run. LINK

Its not a low end spec tablet though

I was going to say books but find that that works ok, you cannot rent movies though, Google does a check for rooted devices and blocks you.

There's an app for that called voodoo which tricks the play store to think you are not rooted by doing a temporary de-root
Its what I use :)
Also works to bypass sky go restriction for rooted phones

If I were to get an android based tablet this would be it. If only for the reason to have pure vanilla android with a decent upgrade path.

Personally I find the 7" too small to comfortably read a page of a4 but other uses may be great with it.

Good price though!

so anyone picked one up? really impressed with it!

Those baskets!

Post office delivered mine this morning, ordered on the 12th from PCWorld.

Just ordered from Tescos again, maybe I'll be lucky this time :)

Got mine earlier in the week very impressed for the money it's a bargain.
