Google Maps Treasure

Just been browsing google maps (on chrome / osx) and where you choose the layers on the top right, theres a 'treasure' layer. Unfortunately i have no idea what it does... Just blanks the map as far as i can see?

I have that book, unfortunately, the treasure hunt is over.
 
Well well, how come i only spotted this today? I am positive it wasnt there yesterday, but am probably wrong!
 
Too close to April the 1st. Google are always up to tricks!
 
I noticed this as well! My normal satellite box was a treasure box. It was pretty cool, when you roll over the map, any city names were written like on an old scroll paper in old script writing but I had no idea what practical purpose it served.
 
That is so funny :D I actually believed the phone in the sun one for a while until they got to the heat response with the laptop over the stove...
