Anyone else use this browser? I have recently started using it and I have to say I'm very impressed. Much faster and nicer looking than Internet Explorer, and with IE7 I used to get notifications every 30 minutes from Kapersky of an attempted network intrusion (which Kapersky blocked), but this doesn't seem to have the same security issues as IEx.

Makes a refreshing change!

EDIT - just seen the thread posted on 28/01/10. Sorry!

I tried it briefly but still prefer Firefox myself :)

Another claiming it's speed. Please give me an example of a site that runs faster, all mh tests show it running slower than safari

Every single site I use runs much faster with Chrome, and I mean every site. And I'm talking real world browsing not tests. Everything pops up instantly, whereas IEx would take a few secs, and hang on occasions and pause when browsing, say, through photo's on Facebook. Chrome I have found to be instant pretty much without exception.

I keep meaning to try it. Currently using FF 3.6 and like the addons and plugins available. FF is very resource hungry though. I might give it a go later this month.

must be an IE thing then. Because every site I run compared with Safari runs slower or just as fast. The worst is ebay or any other site with lots of flash, chrome seems to struggle with it's flash plugin

Chrome is one of the best browsers available at the moment. I believe Chrome and Firefox are the best due to its plugins.

I've downloaded and installed Chrome and have been using it all day today.

I have to say, I would agree that it feels faster than IE. (on my PC running XP). I'm going to try it on my Mac this evening and see how it compares to Safari.

Just looking at the settings there's a box ticked that says "use DNS pre-fetching to improve load performance". If that's unique to Chrome maybe that's why it seems to load pages faster

Each to there own, I dont mind Chrome but still prefer Firefox

There it none whatsoever for IE!

The difference I find with chrome is not the speed of loading pages, but the sheer responsiveness of the browser at a whole.

If I load the program, it is ready to use in around a second on my laptop. IE takes 5 seconds at least, Firefox not much quicker.

Then if I open a tab in Chrome it is instantly available for use, with all my favourite sites. IE and Firefox are noway near as quick.

I've recently switched to Chrome from Firefox and find it faster to load and that it handles multiple tabs a lot better. My only gripe is that it messes up the auto-hide taskbar in Windows 7 but that can be easily solved by pressing F11 twice.

I've tried it, whilst I do like it, it won't save my passwords (and yes the box is ticked in the options).

Pete

^^ but thats a good thing, you should never allow your browser to save your passwords!!

Tbh I have tried them all and could pick faults with any of them, what I find sad is that people actually believe they are saving a split second of their time

Just downloaded Chrome and it doesn't appear to be colour managed. Is there a plugin or something that needs installing?

Its not the 'saving split seconds' that I guess people like.

Its the improved responsiveness and a feeling that it isn't hogging the system for me. On my laptop at least, its just seamless. Theres no waiting for pages to load, or waiting for a new tab to open, or waiting to open my favourites. Its just snappier all round.

I'd agree with that, it zips along much quicker on my netbook than IE :)

I use it on my home and work machines..

Its fast
its truly multi-threaded so better on multicore
I find it very stable as well

Thumbs up

I've installed the Linux version on my Netbook - beta right now, but very complete.

Installed painlessly on Ubuntu Netbook Remix with no hassles.

i have to agree that G chrome is much faster than any browser around ... however u ll miss the Google toolbar on IE ( Autofill, the little search box with its history , highlight etc ) ... u also miss the drop down menu on the command bar ... password autosave on chrome is not very impressive as well .... i am still teaching myself to live without those at this stage knowing that google will soon bring it all on ...

Been using Chrome for 2 or 3 weeks now, noticeably snappier than Firefox which was sadly started to become a bit bloated and resource hungry. Still miss a few of the plugins I had in Firefox, hopefully they'll eventually be ported to Chrome!

Comparing any newish browser to IE is like comparing a modern car to a horse and cart - when the horse has stopped for lunch.

Before saying that Chrome is the fastest because it is gee-wiz fast when compared to a dead slug is doing a serious disservice to the other browsers out there.

Try Safari (even if you aren't on a Mac) and you will find it's as fast if not faster than Chrome.

I tried Safari a while back, and it wanted to install loads of extra crap like Quicktime etc

Massive download (48 megs), with loads of unwelcome crap like Quicktime etc. I don't like bloated stuff, especially stuff thats also installed by stealth tactics, so the enforced download and install of Quicktime makes it a no-no on principle.

I'm sensing you have an issue with Quicktime ;)

how do you actually search on google chrome? typed into the address bar and a big fat nothing ??

Web browser's, as much as anything, are a personal choice of what you like, or don't like.
What works for me, may be hopeless for others.
For example, Safari on my mac is fine, Safari on my windows machine is useless to me but only because I use Citrix to access work and Safari drops connection to one of the apps via Citrix after 1 minute if not in constant use. Otherwise it looks ok.
Likewise with IE8 -won't work with the version of Citrix my work uses!

Currently I'm using Chrome, no issues so far.

My recommendation to anyone would be, have a restore point and give it a try. If it doesn't suit then switch back to whichever browser your happy with.

queenies - you just type your search in the address bar and hit enter, assuming you have a default search engine it should work fine.
