Google Chrome - Impressive

Been using Google Chrome for over 6 months now, really amazed by its speed. Love the way you can search, enter url all on the address bar. Was on a friends laptop the other day and using firefox I kept on thinking it was chrome so ended up typing a search on the address bar! :D

Firefox does all that, search the web, search your bookmarks, they even have a stupid name for it 'The Awesome Bar"

I currently do most of my browsing in IE and only use FF for download helper so might go back to it now its had some time to mature, the adverts are getting to me too, they're everywhere.

What's an advert  Oh sorry I use Firefox and Adblock Plus :)

For those of you that like Google Chrome, give Iron a shot.
It's based on the chrome source code but unlike Chrome it doesn't create unique user IDs or send URIs to Google for generating search hints.

If you're after a exif viewer for chrome or any browser you can use Jeffreys Exif Viewer although it's best if you open it as a new tab.

Do any of these browsers (other than FF) support colour profiling for images?

Iv'e been using Opera for years, its quick & not bloated like Ie, But iv'e been trying Chrome alongside Opera for about two weeks. It is quite a bit faster than opera & so far i am impressed, One thing though it never asks me if i would like to save passwords even though it is selected in the options but other than that it's looking good

Chrome (and SRWare Iron) ARE fast. It is worth pointing out that Opera can view EXIF as a context menu option without any addons - something I value.
As to Opera's own quirks, the one that habitually annoys me more than anything else is that it arbitrarily dumps cookies and makes you go searching for your login data.
Try as I may, I haven't found a way to disable that "feature" in preferences.

From what I have been told by my housemate (he's a Mac and Windows user) is that Chrome is a lot more sluggish on Mac than Windows. Hopefully they will fix that in the near future as I'm moving onto Macs soon!
Ah right ok. To be honest Safari is so quick in Snow Leopard I can't really see how you can get much quicker in a browser. I guess it will just come down to the extra little features like searching in the address bar, although I have a google search right next to my address bar so that particular feature doesn't do much for me.

havent found its speed any different to safari or firefox, just another browser.

Differing views, "yes it's faster" "no it's not", won't the speed it runs depend on the resources available on your particular machine, I.E. amount of RAM Etc?

Pete

But that would be the same for any browser you are running. If one browser is running faster than another on the same system then it shows the browser is more efficient

Its smoother, faster and easier to use. More viewing space and loads in seconds. I use it on my laptop as its only 512mb ram. But as said before the lack of plugins likes exif make me still use firefox on my main pc. Soon as exif plugin comes out for it im making the switch fully.

I think people are using the term "faster" because it's been rammed down their throat in advertising. I have actually tested it on a number of pages against safari and it's either the same speed or slower.

Still waiting for someone to tell me an actual webpage they have seen it load faster, would love to test it

What is everyone going to do with the fractions of a second they might save if any of these are faster?

well I use ebay a lot and probably load it 10 times each day, I found safari loads in 18 seconds faster than the ebay home page on chrome so I worked out in a year that saves me 18 hours. I'm 30 so reckon I have at least 50 years left of my life so I could be looking at saving 38 days.

Perhaps I should go on a real Safari with those 38 days

18 seconds is a hell of a lot. I'd have given up by then.

For some bizarre reason I scrolled down to the bottom of the Terms of Service one th Chrome download page. The last two stopped me downloading it.

20.2 From time to time, Google Chrome may check with remote servers (hosted by Google or by third parties) for available updates to extensions, including but not limited to bug fixes or enhanced functionality. You agree that such updates will be automatically requested, downloaded, and installed without further notice to you.

20.3 From time to time, Google may discover an extension that violates Google developer terms or other legal agreements, laws, regulations or policies. Google Chrome will periodically download a list of such extensions from Google’s servers. You agree that Google may remotely disable or remove any such extension from user systems in its sole discretion

So if they find an ad blocker they can remove it I guess.

the first one of those terms would make me download it more, updates automatically without me ever having to bother or even know it has done it - sounds great!

I'm more of a control freak. If an update caused a problem I'd want to know one had been done to help solve it.

might download chrome today and see if its better than firefox.

anyone had experience of this .....?

downloaded Chrome a couple of days ago - looks OK - nothing startling
i find the info a bit sparse...but still exploring.....
..
how do i get add-ons like English spell-checker ===SORTED

doesn't remember TP log-in details - that ALONE may send me back to FF
I disable 3rd party cookies - maybe that's why ?

FF opens a link directly into a new open tab !!=======SORTED

so far - not convinced.....

I've been using chrome for a while now. Also tried IE and Mozilla and prefer Chrome over them.. As for speed, can't say I really notice tbh.

what has chrome got over the other browsers?

pretty much the only difference is the search bar and the address bar are the same thing, so you just type into one place. Thats about it - oh and it's also slower than safari.
