Google announce 6" Quad HD Nexus 6

Love the spec, but unfortunately the screensize is a no-go for me, Nexus 5 to stay I guess.. Although the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player are both VERY tempting!!

6" is too big for me as long as it lives in the pocket. Android 5.0 and the tablet is all good news.

Nothing wrong with N5. It is just as good as it was.

Me too, Nexus 5 is as big as I'd like, and it's a bargain at the mo. Just need a really good reason to upgrade from my Nexus 4, but the fact the Android 5.0 is coming to it means it'll be staying a while.

ive got the n5 now and it seemed a really good upgrade from the iphone5 which i had before, but the screen size of the iphone 6+ (which my oh has) looks quite good but its not got the nice grippy rubber back like the nexus so its like holding a slippery fish! i think small screens mainly appeal to people who use a phone one handed but i have never seen any benefit to not using both hands if you have 2 hands of course lol

I find having a hand free a pretty obvious benefit :)

My 5.2 inch LG G2 and my wifes 5.5 inch Galaxy Note 2 fit in my pockets just fine

6" QaudHD is a nonsense.

4 times as many pixel driver circuits - so more power to drive the screen.

20/20 vision can determine detail upto 1 arcsecond (1/60 degrees) To see the difference between HD and QuadHD on a 6" screen requires a viewing distance of less than an inch.

They'd have been better off increasing the colour gamut and dynamic range.

I'm afraid it's a marketing gimmick.

Its a gimmick people buy into though...just like Apple.....ooops did I just say that out loud

quadhd is 1.78x the pixels of hd (2.074mp vs 3.686mp) not 4x

Nope, 1280x720 is an HD format
i guess but very much a "legacy" form of hd now! however take a typical 27" quadhd screen which is 4.5x larger than the 6" nexus screen - would this not mean i would have to view it at 4.5" to see the difference between a quadhd 27" screen and a 1280x720 27" screen?

I have the original Galaxy Note and now the Note 3. Both fit perfectly well in my regular pockets. I bought the phones for the screen size and performance, not the stylus. If Google stick to large devices like the Nexus 6 I will probably jump ship from Samsung for my next phone and embrace all the Googleiness on offer including timely updates and lack of bloat.

N5 big enough for me, I too pocket my phone... The N9 looked tempting when it was guestimated it'd start at £240ish in the UK, based on US prices.

Actual price is £319 for the 16GB model, rising to £399 for the 32GB. £80 for 16GB of storage is criminal these days, so no new Nexii for me this year.

Reading the reports I've seen, at a normal viewing distance for TV, the difference becomes apparent somewhere above a 55" screen.

I also realised I forgot to convert to Radians, which gives a figure in the region of 5 inches not 1

so viewing a 27" quad hd screen at 22.5 inches (a fairly normal viewing distance) would mean i could tell no difference between that screen and a 27" 720p screen. even 1080p would look awful on anything over 24" at that distance!

It looks like today is the preorder date for US customers and reports say it sold out of the blue version in 22 seconds and the white version in 40 seconds. I hope the UK play store has it in stock before too long, not even sure when it will be.
