Well almost.

I've installed Chrome today and I like what I see, but I'm struggling to let go of Firefox. I've always hated IE and I've used Firefox for as long as I can remember. A friend was telling me of his switch to Chrome from Firefox and I thought I'd give it a go.

Anyone else done the same lately?

Yep. I like it.

This tells a story (from Wikipedia if it works)

Chrome isn't hitting the spot for me.

First time starting after booting up, it fails to connect. Closing Chrome and starting again and it's fine.

Also, back/forward buttons on my mouse don't work with it, so I'll be sticking with Firefox.

really never got on with chrome, plus googles rep on data collection isnt the best.

IE9 for me these days, only use FF to separate out work and personal browsing on work laptop..

Agreed, don't even use FF at all these days.

It is a pain to get rid of Chrome if you decide it isn't for you.

Chrome is great! Better than IE and FF

Define better. It has the lowest memory footprint to ie and certainly to ff, beyond that it's just another browser that does the same as at least a few other bits of software.

Sorry you've caught me on a bad day lol

Personally from the past IE and FF has crashed and been slow in the past since I moved to chrome have't had a single problem so have't thought of looking back!

which is fine, but if that was IE6/7 things have moved on since then and arent a direct comparison for latest versions of chrome etc. personally i think IE9 is the best browser MS have made to date.

Whilst that is true Neil, it isn't actually saying much... ;) :D

I did the same thing yesterday. Fed up with FF crashing on me and having to remove add-ons that were not playing nicely.
Very early days yet, but Chrome seems faster.

I'll take your comments aboard and try IE out once formatted

It's about time, Firefox is a dinosaur and has been for years tbh.

I'm a bit skeptical of the privacy issues regarding Google Chrome itself so I just use Chromium, the exact same browser without the unique user tracking and Google branding.

Its the first browser which actually seems to have been successful in its "less is more" approach.

just like camera, FF feels like the right browser to use rather than Chrome.

having said that, i use Chrome everywhere else. at work, on relative's computer. out of the box, Chrome feels better than FF.

but at home, it's Firefox or nothing (or iPad). with the amount of customisation it's gone through since i've started using it at v1.5, it's truly my own browser.

(also, Firefox is colour aware. having an AdobeRGB monitor requires me to use FF. Chrome isn't)

Benefits of chrome compared to ie.....

Spell check as standard, great for forums and cms systems.

Sync bookmarks, extensions and autofill data between computers and mobile devices

View the bookmarks are open on My desktop from My phone and open on My phone.

Might text extension, I can send and receive SMS messages in chrome (linked to android phone)

So the main thing is syncing settings and bookmarks between computers and spell check. IE10 and Windows 8 may bring this and I may switch back to IE.

This is the key advantage of chrome for me, especially using an android phone with chrome browser.

Will have to look into chromium after reading the comments above.

I rather went of firefox for a while as it seemed to be taking too long to load various pages.
However I just reset everything on it, doing away with various add-ons and such and it's really fast again and I may return...
Just installed my indispensable ad-block and fireFTP and still good.

I cant, say that i am having any problems with FF,but i do avoid d/loading all these addons .:)
I have used FF for years & still quite happy with it,tried chrome but not for me.:nono:

You can use more than one browser at any one time...radical idea I know but wow...I use FF, Chrome, Camino, Safari and Opera.

Surprised a few of these haven't been mentioned...also use (but rarely) TurboWeb, Seamonkey and Stainless. Everything apart from IE as it's a pile of poo.

Don't hurry ditching FF. Chrome doesn't support colour management (at least on mac it doesn't), while FF does (after enabling an option). And indeed, Chrome displays my photos slightly wrong from flickr.

Firefox has been flaky in mac version on several machines for a while, so switched to Chrome, which I like less, but is faster but can still be flaky, especially when clicking links from external sources [eg, tweetdeck or emails] when it insists the page can't be found, but will load form cache :bonk:

However, going to give Chromium a whirl, see what its like. Cant abide safari, absolute pants thats makes IE look smart imo.

You should be following the LCD... Use sRGB for web stuff and it will all be fine.

According to: http://peter.sh/experiments/chromium-command-line-switches/

On Windows, converts the page to the currently-installed monitor profile. This does NOT enable color management for images. The source is still assumed to be sRGB.

I've looked in the past and it appears to be a known issue with Chrome.... But as a 'tog, you should be saving as sRGB which Chrome assumes...

Really? It's the only one I use on my MB Air. I've tried FF, Chrone, Iron etc and I just don't like them.

I constantly come back to Safari as it just seems to run smoothest of all

That's not a solution. Web content is web content and I can't change everything, but I would prefer to see it correctly.
You specifically mentioned your own photos in the post I quoted.

If you save your photos in anything other than sRGB and then claim the reason others see your photos wrong is because they're using the wrong browser, you're showing a heck of a lot of people photos which aren't the right colour.

If you save for web, save as sRGB. If you don't, expect people to see weird looking photos.

10 points.

Started using Chrome for Android, seems like the best browser on Android now as well.
