Hi all,

I'm taking a wee road trip to see a friend of mine in Cardiff tomorrow night, then heading down to the Gower peninsular for Saturday night. I was wondering if anyone had some tips for places between the two to stop on the way.

Thinking long-exposure seascapes and the like :)

Rhossili beach...worms head...its right on the end of the peninsular if you can get down there.

All round here St Govans Head, Stackpole, South Pembrokeshire

Pembrikeshire is a little out of the way though if you just want a few stops between Cardiff and the Gower (great for surfing btw)...

A few good places for shots are Newport docks (a bit scummy I know - I used to live there, but you can get some lovely pictures), the Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes (by Bridgend/Ogmore) and if you want a nice night shot, the view from the M4 towards Portalbert is actually quite pretty!

Cardiff marina area is surely worth a pop. Great mix of industrial-type setting, what with the raised roadways heading out towards Llantrisant etc, and the new developments near where all the boats are moored is only a few minutes from the city centre. Why not give the castle garden a pop? Pus there's the stadium and the river - all great for shots.

If you want amazing landcsapes head up the valleys road to Ferndale and up the Ricas (above Treherbert) and you're sure to get some amazing scenes.

There's a couple of beaches in between Cardiff and the Gower that are worth a visit....

Southerndown beach, Llantwit Major Beach or Ogmore by sea for a start - Southerdown is one place I want to visit - it looks quite and interesting South West facing beach, allegedly good for suft and has an interesting headland called Witches point :) EDIT -- just looked on google maps and right next to Southerdown is Dunraven Bay - which looks good too :)

Cardiff Bay is a worth a shot too...

And as others have said - Rhossilli bay, Worms Head, Mumbles lighthouse are all worth a look too! :)

Also might be worth having a look if there's any decent Waterfalls up Swansea valley's way - I've a feeling there are, but I don't know the area well enough to say for sure! :)

HTH

Matt
