We joined Netflix a few days ago (£5.99 a month) and have watched a couple of films, which were really good quality vision wise, but the sound was lacking (my current, cheap speakers being the culprit). Does anyone know where I can get a pair of good quality speakers for less then £150?
Cheers.

Maybe have a look at a soundbar, reasonably priced, and can be very neat under monitor. Ankar have a selection on Amazon, maybe a starting point.
Good luck in your listening.

Unbeknown to me, Mrs Nod has had Netflix for a while, watching it on her phone or tablet. It's now available to us on both the smart TVs...

Unless you go for a seperate amp to drive a decent pair, a 2.1 system with a sub is your best bet.

I've used Sony in the past, excellent sound, all things considered.

I'm currently using a Trust 2.1 system with a sub, sounds very good. Not quite Hi-fi quality but getting there.

Something like this.

depends on your TV outputs, just a pair of powered speakers would do the job.
I have these in black attached to my Roberts Stream in the house in GC via RCA and they sound well above the price point and have a nice remote.

They look like the sort of thing I am after, how big are they?

I have some Edifier Luna Eclipse speakers. I lost my first ones in a fire in 2019 and when I got sorted I immediately got a new set.
Great sound, deep clean bass and beautiful crisp top end.
I got the HD version second time around but these are the first ones I had an £119

.

The soundbar for our tv packed in recently so I bought this

An all in one soloution, built in woofer - it's not the most powerful option for the money but the sound is clean, decent and it packs a punch, very solid bass performance. It can also go stupidly loud without distortion. It's also a bit of a looker too with the grille off - got mine in the wood finish which blends in nice with my wood tv stand set up, but you can get it in white or black finish too. It can be used vertical or horizontal, whatever firs your set best.

It is hard wired, so not so portable, but it does have bluetooth so you can play music from your phone through it, controls are simple - there's 3 knobs on top to control bass, treble, volume and you get a slick little remote to with too.

There's some good used Sony and Samsung soundbars available on eBay. I'd recommend a minimum of 3.1 so that there's a separate centre channel for dialogue clarity and a subwoofer to assist the small drivers with lower frequencies.

Alternatively, Richer Sounds have a small range of Active speakers in your budget. They would probably arrange a demo for you as well.

I've had a pair of these now for 11 years and can highly recomend them for the price...I know a couple of discerning muso's who swear by them.
( For a "Desktop PC")

They look really nice, not too large or intrusive. They say 14 watts, are they loud enough?

I've got these, specially for the independent bass and treble controls. They go plenty loud (my wife stole them to use in a large hall) and are good for gaming and even have decent bass considering the size, but obviously with their physical size limitations they aren't going to have the depth and clarity as a nice set of bookshelves. For using with a computer they are excellent. For using with a TV, they won't really be a noticeable improvement over modern built in TV speakers.

Edifiers all day long.

According to my purchase history I've had the R1280DB for a bit over 4 years now. Optical feed from the desktop, bluetooth from my laptop, RCA jacks to the Xbox. Work beautifully, sound great and look lovely on my desk. Nothing like a "computer" speaker :). Various versions between £100 and £130 depending on how many connections you want.

I use a Bose Soundlink. With my PC works for me

Exactly the same as mine, bought in September 2020 according to my Amazon history
Optical feed from the PC Soundcard, very good for the money.

Before them I had Kanto YU6MB, bit overkill especially with the Yamaha Sub under the desk
They are now in the spare (hobby) room connected to an old Samsung tablet via a DAC

I looked at the newer 1280dbs, but settled on the D12 for an all in one, neater option. I have checked comparisons and they're similar, the 1280 seems to be a bit 'brighter' and obviously proper stereo, where the D12 [claims stereo but it is an all in one unit] is more bass heavy which I like. The D12 was a bit cheaper too, at least when I bought. I don't think you can go wrong with either, I like the overall punchy sound from the D12, and it's impressive how high you can go without any distortion

I'm using the D12 as a soundbar for the tv basically, for the PC I have the Soundcore X600, again an all in one unit but has 'spatial sound' which works surprisingly well. I would say the Soundcore has overall better sound quality but the D12 has thumpier bass. They also look drastically different so personal preference on that. I might even try switching them around at some point as the X600 should be much better for movies

One con on the Soundcore is there is no power supply, you can keep it plugged into a pc via usb while in use and it will charger over time, but for TV you are reliant on battery power - and in my case, as I like it loud! the battery life is not great. Sound is epic though

Also if anyone was interested, don't pay that much! I've seen it go on other sites for €150 or less in sales

Ah, I thought that might not be a coincidence :)

I use a pair of PreSonus-Eris-3-5-Gen-Studio-Quality powered speakers and would recommend them.

I have them mounted on these stands to improve the bass response and elevate them to ear level:

I use Presonus Eris 3.5 in one location and Eris 5 in another and like them both. The Eris 5 is bigger and more expensive. But the small Eris 3.5 or the slightly bigger Eris 4.5 would fit within your budget. Note that most Eris speakers are available with or without bluetooth. You can compliment the speakers with a matching subwoofer if you feel the need.
Note that the speakers are mini studio monitors = honest but not very forgiving. Thus perhaps not perfect for all uses but very suitable for music production, video editing etc. Way better than most PC speakers.
Nice speakers next to a monitor. Less so if you want to compliment a TV.
