Ordered my first lens from Panamoz on 8/9/12. Courier attempted delivery today but nobody was home. I went to collect at my local depot, opened the packaging and found the lens box to be badly damaged (squashed). I took out the lens at the collection counter, and the lens seems to be intact. However, I could not be sure that the lens was 100% working and in focus due to the famage of its original box. Also, the damaged box would affect the resale value. As a result, I refused to accept delivery of the lens.
IMO to wrap a lens in bubble wrap and put it into one of those plastic envelopes is not sufficient packaging. This should have been put inside another box as a minimum.

Sorry to hear that :(

Mine didn't have bubble wrap around the outside of the box at all, it was just boxed in a box (lol)... it was a good thing there was padding inside and it was also inside its own softcase too. But all is fine with my box and lens - phew.

I gotta admit that my MK3 just came in a box that was only barely larger than the 5d box itself.
It's probably to reduce volume and keep costs down, but my 5d box did have some blunted corners, which is a shame. But at the end of the day, the camera works perfectly, and I saved a boat load of cash, so, I can live with it.

My lens came in the Nikon box which had its own standard internal packing, the box itself was surrounded in several layers of bubble-wrap and the whole thing inside the plastic postage bag.
All I can say is that yours must have had a tremendous crack to squash it all ... sounds like poor carrier care or poor internal packing within the manufacturer's box - what lens was it?

Sigma 30mm f1.4
The Sigma pouch saved the lens, but could not be sure if it was still 100% working. The Sigma box looked like a bus had run over the top, this would obviously affect its resale value. What makes it even more annoying, this was my birthday prezzie from my wife & kids (my birthday today).
I have ordered from another HK supplier, Onestop Digital, and I must say that their goods are well packed. Surely Panamoz can do the same.

Can you pack for a bus running over the package  - hope the new lens works out ok for you :)

I've dealt with both OSD and Panamoz and never had any problems with either on the packaging the last lens i had from Panamoz about 2 weeks ago had at least 4 layers of bubble wrap on it which i even saying too my missis about how much bubble wrap was on it :D

I wouldn't have been impressed if it'd arrived like yours did though

Dear BIGEYE,

Very sorry about this. We will package better. Most of the time we're already using 8-10 layers of bubble. We're looking into ways to pack better.

Maybe I missed it, I didn't see a reply from you today, should we send you a refund now? Since you've ordered elsewhere.

Regards,
Tina

Just home from work and have replied to the email requesting a replacement be sent. I haven't ordered elsewhere, I was referring to previous orders for other items.

sounds more like a courier issue to me also, bar packaging it in a padded steel crate what else would have saved the box damage from a couriers heavy handedness

I knew someone that used to work near a courier. They were regularly seen standing in the tops of cages full of packages jumping up and down on them to make them fit within the cage...

It's best to assume any package will be abused and it needs to cope with falling several feet, being kicked and being jumped up and down on. Couriers aren't careful in the slightest.

I too have seen this first hand at a depot. I was waiting for some parts from Germany and needed them quick, so went to the depot at 5 in the morning to wait for the trunker to come in.
The unloading was a joke, all the region cages were against the walls, and the packages for each cage were drop kicked, thrown etc into the cages. When I said to the guy that I was waiting for £3k worth of pcb's, he said, " I don't give a ****, I still get paid at the end of the month whatever happens"

With attitudes like that, it's no wonder this country is in the state it is.....

what gets me with couriers and the post office is that you have to pay extra to insure the item in case THEY loose it , THEY damage it,
or THEY steel it

Lol true surely if you pay for them too take a item too a specific place it should be there insurance that should pay up for it lost or damaged and not the sender.

I too have witnessed that sort of behaviour at a company a friend used to work at. I was off work and bored, so I went out in his van with him. We got back to the depot and they were all throwing packages around. The worrying thing is that the company went on to be one used as a third party that UPS use, which I found out when getting a red ring of death xbox replaced.

I hope my 5Dmk3 comes with UPS tomorrow and not those again!

Ironically, my mate lost his job when he crashed the van in a ditch :D Apparently they didn't find it funny when their stuff got damaged :D

Firstly let me say, I've not had any poorly packaged items from Panamoz before, most of them are wrapped in around 20 feet of bubble wrap and I've never had any problems with any of my orders.

My brother worked as a driver for a delivery company and was totally shocked at how the packages are treated. He made numerous deliveries where the items were damaged and he had to take the flack directly from the customer. After making several complaints to the bosses about the way the packages were handled he was finished by the company and labelled as a troublemaker by them.

He currently works for a company delivering expensive electrical items and he says this company couldn't be more different. He's seen people disciplined and even sacked for mistreating the packages and has never had to face an angry customer so far. I wish there were more companies like that.

when signing for any delivery you must squeeze in the word unchecked with your signature

i worked for parcel force when i was at college on a part-time basis and packages just used to be thrown into the vans and lorries. that was nearly twenty years a go sounds like things still aint changed.
