I have an old avi movie file that I saved from my minidv video camera, and I was just wondering is there any way I can get good quality jpegs from it? The camera on the old minidv camera only captures very poor quality jpegs as does simply screen grabbing, I have also tried using VLC media, but this too is very poor quality jpegs. The avi file is now on my laptop.

The avi file is at 25 frames per second, so is there any way I could possibly import some of these frames as jpegs ?

In a word, no.
You might be able to get something just about usable at very small size.
You might get a better image by pausing in screen and photographing that.

yes I suppose that is another option

If anybody would know, would it be worth looking out for an old Minidv video recorder with a better quality photo function, I could run the tape through and get stills that way. Or would it still be simply screen grabbing ? My old Minidv video only does 1.7 Mega Pixels and produces terrible stills :(

Just that I have some old video clips of family, and I would love to save them as photos.
