I've been thinking for a while of doing some sort of official course/training but not sure where to start really

I've looked at some college courses but the ones I've seen so far haven't looked great or have been through organisations I've never heard of.

I'd love to do it as an online course in my own time as that would be much easier to start now without having to enrol/fit around work, but I realise that I'd possibly get more benefit from actually going and sitting in a class

I appreciate there will be all sorts of different specialised courses available but if I could at least get a few well thought of places to start looking it would be a big help

Thanks in advance

Matt

just a quick edit to say that this enquiry came to mind after I read the dipp thread so if that is the answer feel free to tell me to keep reading through that one :)

Another quick edit to say that I'm not actually after the 'qualification' it's the learning that I'm interested in, so certification isn't a requirement

I did the A level over 2 years as an evening class at Crewe (South Cheshire college) and it was brill. Would heartily recommend an actual class with real people just for the ability to chat to others with the same hobby. However their website is broken at the moment so it's probably a phone call to find out what they do. Their facilities were amazing and the darkroom work was a lot of fun. Working in a proper darkroom rather than changing bags & cupboards was a real treat! I wrote an article about it here if you're interested.

I know Mid Cheshire stopped doing "official" courses a few years ago due to the cost. Looking at their Adult Ed section now I can't even see a course. Sir John Deane's college does a few photography courses & Saturday workshops. Was thinking of trying one of them myself for fun.

I'd prefer to do an actual physical course with real people any day of the week over an internet based online study thing. The discussion & feedback is immensely helpful. I appreciate that not everyone has access to these educational faciliies though, so online may be the only way to go.

Same here. Online study is good only if you need theory lessons. I would've gone for both - actual physical course and online (theory)
