Good Old Jessops

How nice of Jessops to sell me a Canon 500D just an hour before closing last night, knowing full well Canon will be offering a £50 cashback offer on that when they reopen in the morning (today!)

Or am I being very unreasonable? I did check the web and there was no suggestion that this was coming.

I hope this is not JUST sour grapes, I really would be Ok if I missed this by a week or two, but an hour and a half......

I can still return the camera, refund it and go through the whole process again I suppose :-)

Lets see how good their Customer Service is shall we......

Kev

You were happy with your purchase when you paid for it , be happy with the purchase now, not jessops fault.

Is it a rant? I am sorry if it is, I thought this was a discussion site, and this was a discussion.

Kev

Sorry original post does come across as a rant. go in and see the branch, talk to them politely, you may be supprised, no point in ranting with out trying to get it dealt with first, total waste of energy unless all you wanted to do was a bit of Jessops bashing,.

After working 17 years in retail myself - I know that offers by some manufacturers are not even announced to the stores until the day it begins. The first the store know about it is a morning update through the intranet, and a POS package arriving by courier before 9am...

Not sure you needed to email both Jessops and Canon head office though, probably would have been resolved more quickly and easily by picking up the phone, saying 'Hi I bought this camera yesterday, and a new offer has come on today - what can we do to resolve it?'

Instead it's now going to be read by Customer services on both sides - who'll then probably end up emailing each other, who'll then have to call the store to tell them what to do, and what's been agreed, then to email you back with a response. We worked out that in our company - each customer enquiry through customer services actually cost us £27 minimum in administration and time..

Maybe next time - try picking up the phone and having a friendly conversation with the branch manager - I'm sure they'd resolve it far more quickly and efficiently than firing off emails in all directions.

Hope you get what you want though, all the same.

Maplin had an offer on a battery and charger combo yesterday. Checked the website about 7 this morning, when I got to the till, it was £10 more. Luckily though, THEY didnt know the price had changed, so I got it for the offer price as it was on the shelf still. These things go both ways, and the people in the store may not have known about the offer, as I experienced today.

Heheh, so if last week, we'll assume say, 4 days ago, you decided to buy the 500D then, this thread wouldn't have materialised?

Yeah, I said that a couple of times already. I think the original post was a reaction to the email, which (illogical I know) seemed to be rubbing my nose in it :-))

I will give it a few mins next time before I post.

Thanks for that side of the story, I guess it is quite possible the store guy did not know about the offer.

I think you are right, next time, I would pick up the phone.

I think this must happen to lots of people, I can not have been the only person to have got caught out.

Slating a shop in the suppliers section, surely that can't be right, i wonder how long before this thread gets closed

It was moved here by site admin. I opened it in a different section.

That happened to me with my D300, I bought it the day before Christmas Eve and on Boxing day they took £100 off the price :annoyed: I popped back into my local Jessops ans they happily refunded the £100 to my credit card - can't say fairer than that

A similar thing happened with my 40D from Jessops, they too refunded £70 when the price dropped between the Friday I purchased and the following Monday.

Thanks for your support Goldie, I think all I was looking for was a bit of sympathy :-)

I will see how it goes with Canon and Jessops customer services.

From my experience Jessops frontline staff often dont get told about 'offers', even from Jessops themselves, as internal communication between head office and shops is diabolical. So it probably wasn't the shop assistants fault.
Stop ranting, go back to jessops and unlike some companies they will gladly return the product and then sell again WITH the cashback.
Britain is a nation of complainers! Just go to that online blogging site "Talk Photography', oh sorry, we're here already lol.

Jessops take things back within 30 days, I never had the problem of taking back a 50mm three weeks after I purchased it when I grabbed one £40 cheaper on here.

Sure it's annoying when things like this happen. It's just life though, really.

My advice for the future would be (and I do my best to go by this myself) when you next buy something of significant value, sure do all the research to find the best deal, but once you buy, DO NOT look at the prices again.

Suppose it can be difficult when companies sent out emails, but even so, you can delete them without looking at them.

:D

I've always thought it strange that Canon require a copy of the receipt in the full knowledge that most photographers would have a fundamental grasp of how to use photoshop ;)

Seems like an invitation to me.

any news?

Yes, got an email back from Jessops and they have been really nice about it, (yes, just like a lot of you said).

Had to pop back to the shop, and they did swap over the receipt, and confirmed they had not known about the offer the day before.

I am going to post a new thread apologising for the way I approached this, lesson learned.

I got my 450 on the cashback last year and they would only accept the original receipt. Interestingly there was no documentation in the box (or on it) about how to claim it. I eventually tracked down the details on Canon's website, where they were easy (yet not obvious) to find.

Must have changed, they require ORIGINAL now :-)

That IS exactly what I do. As you say, when you open an email and the main thing is the offer, it is hard to avoid. Can't really not open it, might have been a free 70-300 IS lens :-)
