Just over a week ago I had an error 99 message come up on my 40D and would not fire the shutter. I searched every where for a solution and tried everything I'd been told but nothing worked, the camera although 26 months old had less than 4000 shutter activations so i took it to canon at Elstree who told me it was a fixed £158 price for the repair but because of the low sutter activations it may be done for free depending on the techs findings.
A week later they rang me to tell me it was ready for collection it had a new shutter mech, a new mirror mech, sensor clean and a service and to my supprise all free of charge.

A great customer service.

Nice one, good to see there is still some excellent customer service around.

I'll give them a thumbs up too. I bought a 24-70 and a month after it was past its guarantee I got a 5D. I then noticed it was back focusing ever so slightly which I hadn't noticed on my 30D. Got in touch with them at Elstree and they fixed it for free as it was only just out of warranty. A rare pleasure to deal with. The girl on reception was hot too and then I remembered how old and bald I was and behaved myself.

Wouldn't do my 100-400L repair at 13 months old for free and cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed.

Seems it's one thing for one person and another thing for someone else.

Good news that some got treated the way they should :D

Much like my own experience. I dropped my 24-70 and 5D2 from waist height onto the road, completely destroying my CPL filter (no lens hood of course) even with the lens cap in place. The lens AF was playing up as a result so I took it and the camera into Elstree. The camera was in warranty but the lens was a month or two beyond. They took the kit in for a "goodwill" repair. It was fixed and returned within three working days at their cost. You are right about the receptionist. Absolutely gorgeous.

p.s. in my case you can add overweight to old and balding.:(
