Just ordered macro extension tubes £7.98 free p&p just to check this seller out really as they have other stuff i am interested in like grips & such things.:)
 
Without electrical contacts how is the Iris going to work? They mention no AF but in macro work that wont matter.
 
No the tubes go in between the camera & your lens.:)
 
I've ordered from them twice, and had to send them back twice.

1st was a "genuine" filter, that turned out to be plastic and no use.

2nd was extension tubes that camera would not recognise as been conected.

I hope you have more success than we did :D

ps. what manual lens are you goind to use with them?
 
Well thats why i am not spending much to see what this dealer is like.
Sorry you had problems with them,i will just have to wait & see.
Any lens that can be switched to manual will do.:):thumbs:

I dont think that will work, the iris/aperture gets stopped down at the moment of exposure via an electrical signal from camera to lens, the tubes will prevent that transfer of electrical impulse.

BUT, if it works I'd be intrigued to know how.

I must admit that I bought these very much on a 'at this price I'm prepared to take a chance' approach. The optical principle is sound - you push the lens away from the camera and it allows you to focus a lot closer.

I was highly dubious about what the actual result would be. Astonishingly enough, I needn't have been! It does exactly what it says on the tin, and using my bog-standard 18-55 Canon lens I've focussed about 20-30mm away from the face of the lens.

You lose the autofocus and some of the other automatic bells and whistles, but it's not really an issue with such close work. Just whack it into Av mode and you're away.

Couple of caveats, but it's nothing to do with this product - just macro stuff in general. You're working very close and dealing with not a lot of light - you really need to use a tripod. Also you're dealing with the world's shallowest depth of field - it has to be seen to be believed!

So yes, these things really do work and if you don't want to shell out on a 'proper' macro lens then this is a perfectly viable alternative for infrequent use. A worthy addition to anyone's kit bag.


Worth a punt at the price.:D:)

dof preview set the aperture, I see.
One reviewer said the tubes stuck on, I had that with a cheap set on my AE-1, but with a bit of care and watchmaker screwdrivers I managed to depress the locking ring and remove the tube.

You need to press the DOF preview button and keep it pressed while removing the lens.
