Cornwall is a pretty big place and I spent a week last month down in the deep West, staying in Marazion. These are the places I went and would recommend:
- Marazion: For views across Mount's bay and St. Michael's mount (but check the tides!).
- Sennen Cove: Tiny harbour with a handful of fishing boats and a mile's walk along the cliffs to Land's End.
- Porth Nanven/Cot Valley: Horrid, hard to find little road from St.Just to get to it but a great cove when you arrive. Interesting rock formations on beach and towering stony cliffs.
- Cadgwith: Pretty little harbour with fishing boats/lobster pots/nets etc. Good number of thatched cottages - unusual in Cornwall.
- Minnack Theatre: Amazing location for this open theatre.
- Geevor tin mine: A lot more interesting than I could have hoped for. An almost intact tin mine with virtually all buildings open to wander around. I could have spent a lot longer here inside the buildings getting shots of the equipment. Great for a wet day.
I wanted to get to the old mining spoil hills somewhere around St.Austell and St.Dennis - a truly alien landscape - but never got the time. It would be somewhere I'd investigate for next time, though.
I hope the weather is good for you - it was highly variable while I was there! Bear in mind a lot of the coast places are National Trust who will fleece you for parking charges no matter what time of year or weather! Here's my favourite shot of the week to whet your appetite:
