Good lens for motorsport?

Thinking about investing in this for motorsport - advice much appreciated:

An excellent lens for motorsport. Gives you the "reach" if you're shooting from the public areas and optically it can produce some stunning images.

As Simon says, excellent, I took one to Le Mans a couple of years back, it was ideal in reach, the only thing was at the time I had a 450d and it unbalanced the camera, I'm thinking of taking one again this year to use on a 1D Mkii and a 5D Mkiii and I reckon they'll be a lot better balanced.

Yeh it's a nice bot of kit. Works well for me. I prefer push-pull too. Have a look at my website, a lot of the pics taken with this lens. Az

It's a good lens and well reviewed, the push-pull is a like it or loath it bit.

Another alternative is a Canon 300mm F4 IS L.

I opted for one over the 100-400 and don't regret it, I'd not had a long prime previously and takes a little gettting used to, but wouldn't swap it now (unless it was for a F2.8 !) and it takes a 1.4TC well.
