Hi people would photography be a good job to get into , is it good pay
 
The pay is great is you have real good business sense and are a good photographer

Depends on what type of photographer you want to be...
 
i would like to travel the world with photography and take shots like landscape, nature, plnets, animals etc. would i geta website or a shop help please thanks
 
business sense is vital, as is something different to offer the industry, there are so many more photographers now since the advent of affordable digital..
 
yup you should, do it yourself and see what happens, but dont expect great things to happen, you really need to have an outlet for them thats known. perhaps a better avenue is getting them sent in to alamy?
 
Getting a website is one thing.
Getting customer to actually buy your images is a whole different ball game.

For quite a while I had a website which was fairly well ranked and the number of customer I got from it was marginal. Reason? I only had a website and didn't get out there and sell myself as a photographer.

Fair enough I do not make my living from it, but being a freelance photographer full time is hard work.

Get your site listed in there with popular keywords so that your site is found.

However, you'll find that you need a good portfolio to start with and some expensive kit. What do you own at the moment? Do you have any qualifications with the photographic arena?

I'm not sure but I think there might be a nationwide company that sells franchises to photographers. Maybe having the backup of a large corporation would help with the "business" side of things?

I just happened to pass a stand in my local supermarket the other day where some hapless old biddy was really being given the hard sell - in the 30 minutes it took to do my shopping she'd been talked into booking a session (scary price) and paying a deposit.

I'm not going to name them here and give them free advertising but if anyone wants details I'll PM you a link to their website. I only looked it up in order to find their address so I can write and complain about their ruthless, nay downright unethical, sales tactics :thumbsdown:
 
Im sorry, but photography isnt something you just DO.

Its something you learn.. .and it takes some learning to get good. It involves things like passion, art and technical ability.

It sounds to me like you just want a JOB... or some MONEY.

I think you'd do best to give photography a miss and look for a job in McDonald's.. although you wont make a quick buck there either. :)

I am thinking of the same, except i like Photography :doh:

I am doing a small course for the technical side, ill then start look for a position as a Photography Assistant, when i feel i have something to offer or build on, before i start quitting my job.

I feel ill learn so much more being a photographers 'Goffer/Tea Boy' rather than practicing the same over and over again......
 
Actually I think if photography is a passion then a job in photography is probably the worst thing to go for, often the photography you have to do is very unglamorous and unchallenging and is likely to ruin your love for the medium.

I disagree, if your passionate about animals, sport, drawing, then becoming a Vet, a Footballer, an Artist would not distinguish that passion, whether it be glamorous or not.

And to be able to have a job/make a living in something you love doing then you're so lucky.....


P.s. As you can tell i am not one of those......lucky i mean....yet :wink:

Maybe the op was deciding on a profession in Sept 2006, and he's/she's back, with 18 months experience at old thread bumping.
I gotta say, time wasn't wasted, this is a thoroughly professional and considered thread bump, worth every penny in wages imo.
