Last night was the job I lucked into, an awards bash that started from a request by the lighting company to get some shots for their website.
It was the Care Focus Care Awards 2007 hosted by Chris Vacher from BBC Points West - he was a real pro and made sure people posed well for shots as they collected their award.
My brief was shots of the guests arriving, in their various groups/table, general atmospheric stuff, the awards, sponsers, band/dance at the end.
PR for the event requested 17 shots for local press this morning and print sales should be pretty good too. On the night I had a queue of people wanting shots of their winner + group, etc. A couple of people asking about weddings - one guy even asked me for a job
On the whole I was really pleased. The lighting was tricky with low levels of ambient light and hard to bouce flash off the roof of the marquee but I managed to find a decent balance between diffused direct flash and ambient light. Here's a few of the proofs with only basic post work.
The 17-40L was a joy to use and focused well in the low light, really loving that lens
