Good image turned boring - looking at a image too much.

I can't be the only one that struggles with this...

I have a good image, but then i work on it and by the end i'm a bit like "it's ok, nothing special' (i see it too much to lose that impact of first seeing it as a final result).

Hope this makes sense.

How do you combat this?

Yep, just like a song that you over play and get tired of, after time you hear it again and love it once more. So long as there is no pressure for delivering an image, leaving them alone before sharing or printing for as long as it takes is good.

Recently on my return from holiday, I went through the couple of hundred photos I had taken, spent no longer than a couple of minutes on each, then ordered a full set of 4x6 prints from DSCL and wouldn't look at them again until the prints arrived. It's a nicer experience for me, the prints aren't expensive and the great ones I can then revisit with the same enthusiasm if they need more work or larger prints to be made.

Distance.

Leave it alone for a however long it takes.

That's exactly what I do after a session of editing - I just put them in their files and do something else for a few days then come back to them.

Often they look a lot better than I remember but if they don't I can often see what I need to improve on.

Sometimes I go back to an image set and resee something I missed, and edit it accordingly. Time is a good thing sometimes :D

Glad its not just me (y)

As above, distance from the images is the best way. I mean if the collection I'm culling is just for personal use I'll quite often do my first pass twice a couple of days apart amazing how your opinion can change over just a few days.

Everyone's photos always look better than mine. Even if I've been out with a mate and we've taken the same shots his are always better than mine.
3 months later mine look OK.

Spot on that!

I had a landscape that I'd been messing about with and ended up thinking meh!

My son in law saw it on screen and said Wow!!

So totally get get where you're coming from.

Spot on and another +1 from me! This is why 99% of my images never see the light of day.

Of course my wife simply says I am full c**p...
