My wife is an avid food blogger and takes all her own pics, but she doesn't have time to play around with setting up softboxes etc (and I need to get fed too!) to light a food shot. So she does them on a tripod and long exposure or using the 17-55/2.8 IS and just shoots a LOT of images to pick a good one.
What I've been considering is rigging a semi-permanent flash fixture in the kitchen which would be easily put away and attached to a shelf as needed but articulating like one of those desk lamps. Or possibly even turning the underside of one kitchen cabinet into a flash
So any suggestions on diffusion materials, especially rigid / flexible ones so that I don't need a separate frame skeleton like with cloth? Or if you've seen/built something like this, all ideas welcome
I will probably power it off 1-2 YN flashes (depending on the final design) so the diffuser sucking up power is not going to be a problem at all. In fact I might need an ND filter somewhere even at 1/128 power..
I have a roll of this stuff from IKEA:

Need to experiment with it.. it's transparent and nice large dimples on it, but it's not really rigid. Also no idea what it will do to the color temp.
