Ok i have just been fiddling with some macro stuff with my 50mm putting it on backwards and would like to get a macro lens as i dont really like doing this, plus would would keep me occupied over the winter.

So iam looking for some recommendations for a cheap macro lens for about £100ish (if possible) but willing to buy second hand.

is there such a thing? ;)

try looking for a tamron 90mm, heard they are good.

If you have more I can recommend the 105micro nikkor (f2.8) its brilliant for macro and works with tubes. Bit more towards 200 or 300ukp but worth it.

Of and pick up some cheap tubes, a tenner perhaps. :)

As mike said, for a dedicated 1:1 macro lens, used, you need £200 to spend.
Sigma 105mm or Tamron 90mm are both well regarded.

Otherwise a set of extension tubes will work - the Kenko auto tubes are about £70 I think

Good lens, although of limited use to a canon user...

As said not a lot of use for a Canon shooter, plus way out on the micro nikkor prices, min is £350 to £450 with the VR being approx £500 s/hm

To the OP you do.need more for a dedicated macro lens or if you have a 50mm go for a set of extension tubes approx £120 which will give you 1:1 or just above.

Mmmmm may have to wait a bit then, was thinking i would be able to get a alright second hand one.

Just another thing to add to my list of stuff i want for my camera.

Thanks anyway guys

Try looking for an old manual focus macro plus converter. You need to manual focus macro most of the time so it isn't a great loss.

Or consider a reversing ring plus an old MF lens. I've never tried this but hear you can get some good stuff.

But tubes would probably be the cheapest and easiest way to go.

Cosina 100mm f3.5 (does auto-focus) if you can find one. They usually go for less than £100 and they are excellent for the money

I have a Cosina 100mm Macro here that I haven't used for ages as I prefer extension tubes with my 50mm. If interested I can put up an ad for it.

Think i may wait i while and wait for some more money for one or looking into extension tubes.

Thanks anyway,

Tyler

I would strongly suggest reading a bit on the Cosina. It is an excellent macro lens for the money and much more versatile than using tubes.
It is EF fit and does auto focus.

How close do you want to get?
I bought the Canon 100mm f2.8 but sold it within a week as I can get twice as close to my subjects with the Raynox DCR-250 lens attatched to my 18-200mm.

I bought the Raynox for £40 on amazon, although it has limits and has restricted use I find it pretty damn good value for the £40.

Search Flickr for example shots taken on it.
