Good deal?

Quick question, is there fundamentally any difference between the 24-70mm f2.8 G ED & 24-70mm f2.8 G AF-S ED?

There is only one Nikon 24-70 (this one: http://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/p...-lenses/fx/zoom/24-70mm-f-2-8g-ed-af-s-nikkor) - Digitalrev have just abbreviated the ident on the bundle description. The full ident is 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S NIKKOR

PS. It's a terrific lens and a perfect match for the D700. Some reviews here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-AF-S-...CT3C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291135753&sr=8-1 and http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/24-70mm.htm

I am buying a D700, and upgrading all of my lenses and found this bundle: http://www.digitalrev.com/en/nikon-...-d-ed-zoom-and-sandisk-8gb-cf-card-10546.html

Price seems quite reasonable I think but not sure about the lens aspect.

Cheers, Justin

Remember that you wouldn't have any Nikon warranty on the camera body, so you need to factor that in when comparing prices with UK-sourced gear.

Thanks Ozei, I was getting a bit confused, so that really helps.

Flash, why would I not be getting a Nikon warranty? Is this something to do with 'grey imports' that I keep reading about on TP?

Yes, Digital Rev come from Hong Kong, so you wont get any warranty on the camera body, and possibly hit with customs charges and VAT on top.

amazon were also doing it for £1695 inc delivery. never had any problems returning items to them for a refund if iw asn't happy.

You DO get a warranty you just have to send it back to HK which doesn't take long

You have to be careful that they do the paperwork correctly or customs will erroneously hit you with another set of import duty (for a used camera), which can be a pain to try and sort out.

If you are sending stuff back to HK for repair, you need to look specifically at re-entry duty exception. You will need to register items you send back for repair before you ship them back. On re-entry, they will be duty and VAT free.

Edited this, as just checked - you need to prove on export for repair that you paid duty in the first instance (on original import) - otherwise you risk getting clobbered.

Yes, there will be a DigitalRev's 12 month warranty, but to clarify, you do not need to send it back to HK since this warranty allows you servicing locally in UK. You only need to get a price quote and confirmation from a local service center and send it back to us for approval. I'll put the details about warranty and import handling details of DigitalRev at our Sponsor area as it seems there are confusion here. :)
