Good card reader for SD and CF?

My card reader seems to have packed in at a rather inopportune moment and no longer recognises an SD card. Still reads CF at least.

Any good fast readers out there? Is this lexar one the one to go for or are there some equally good alternatives?

My skynet machine has USB3.0 and all manner of other go faster things if required:D
 
I ended up getting a USB 3.0 one that goes inside the computer. It has 3 USB connectors and half a dozen different card slots and is connected to a PCI-E slot on the motherboard which makes downloading the image files very fast. Normally transfers at about 60Mb/s and there are lots of them about on ebay for around £20.
 
I have that Lexar one and it's very good. I've noticed a big difference from the old USB2 built in card reader, new one is much quicker.

Thanks for that- hadn't considered that route. Will give that a go I think- I'll still get a portable device as well as will be handy for me.

It seems to be the one to have and I feel these 19 in 1 devices would be wasted on me as 17 would go unused:lol:
 
I also cannot recommend the Lexar Pro SDHC/CF reader enough - big plus is that it's USB3, so should last a while.

I also have a CF PCMCIA express adapter, which reads at 100% the card's rating - at least up to the 60MB/s cards I have....

Got one of these last week, just run a test on it, usb2 v usb3

Tested with a photofast 32gb CF 533x

Ah yes- I did mean to update this but of late I don't know if I'm coming or going:lol:

Must say the lexar is quite dinky- I like the way it opens up though if I was picky- and I am:p, I would say it would be better if the whole unit was black rather than a mix of black and clear plastic.

Still, can't fault the speed and works well with skynet:)
 
I also have the Lexar seems a good solid unit. Don't think your go far wrong with one.
