Well, it's nearly Christmas and the wife wanted a new laptop, so I talked her into letting me get a new desk top at the same time!

So, good bye JPEG and hello RAW, now I actually have a computer that can handle the processing!

Wow what a difference RAW makes.
Sadly new computer means no new camera gear until Easter, but I think I'll survive. I may have to invest in a 3rd memory card though!

Any tips on using RAW greatly appreciated.
Currently using the Nikon ViewNX 2, Gimp and UFRaw.

I've shot almost exclusively RAW for 3-4 years now. I like it because I like the PP work after taking the shot. It certainly gives you a lot of flexibility in shooting; it also provides a heck of a safety net if you over- or under-expose.

If you would rather NOT spend a bunch of time at the computer, though, jpeg may be the way to go, so long as you know your camera well and can set the various parameters to achieve what you want in a photo.

best of luck!

I recently "went RAW" but I've kept the .jpeg as well (BTW it's an option on most Canon EOS SLRs) so, apart from the card-capacity issue it gives me the best of both worlds (I "get by" with 2x 32GB cards).

Raw here too, can take what looks like a drab pic into something really nice. Still amazes me now what you can recover from a raw file.

RAW and jpeg for me too. I started shooting both since the Oly E620, and just carried on with the Canon 550D.
My typical subject matter and shooting style means I'm happy with jpg most of the time, after altering in-camera settings when/if I need to, but have the RAW for insurance.
I did some one-off bar photography last month and one was way underexposed. I'd moved from under a fairly low ceiling (bouncing flash) to a part where it was much, much higher, I wasn't paying attention. I was able to rescue it from RAW.
I don't find storage a problem. 2x 8Gb cards, I rarely fill even one. Coming from film way back, the old habit of being conservative with the shutter button is still with me :)
I'm gradually getting more into RAW and I may switch at some point when I get over being so anal lol.
