Hi

Was set to get the Calumet Heavy Duty stand but am questioning if I really need to spend twice as much as say a lencarta or another make?

I was thinking it would avoid any sagging issues if Vinyl was used but after reading a bit more I'd probably stick to paper/ muslin anyway as it seems 'good' vinyl or vinyl suitable for photography is hard to find at reasonable cost.

So would I be wasting money by going for the heavy duty one- are there other makes I should consider that are just as sturdy?

Also, looked at perspex for the floor to place on top to stop holes appearing when on carpet- 2mm or 4mm or are a couple of small (portable) sheets of ply or other material for underneath a better solution? It would stop reflections if that look was not required I guess.

Any advice thanks-hopefully I've made some sense:thinking::)

Any ideas? What about this? Never heard of them either so don't know how legit they are. Seems to have, some might say, a 'gimmicky' braking mechanism too.

I did search but most either talk about the material or how to get a set up for as cheap as possible. I'd rather get it right first time as it costs less in the long run.
Having said that if an ebay one for £15 works then fair enough but I'd say that would be incredible unlikely- I await my elitism to be shot down:lol:

I BOUGHT THIS...

Well made and versatile...can add to your own stands...Its also telescopic...Im also going to use as a 2m lighting boom...just add a brass monkey...

They also sell a bit with stands and bag for £60...if the stands are as good as the pole Id be well happy...

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the links- like the idea of a telescopic pole- would it take the weight of vinyl or muslin? Sounds like you thik it's pretty sturdy.

The whole thing looks good- I guess the only thing I wonder is whether the height would be enough- in modern houses you would mainly be limited by the height of the ceiling which is often low but at other times would having only 2.6m be limiting for full length shots as opposed to 3.6m? But then who has 3.6m ceilngs other than a studio where they have all the kit anyway...mmm:bang::lol:

Got the same kit myself, pole is really sturdy, stands have been fine for me, usually with 2m. wide vinyl x 5m long, more than happy with it, cant go wrong for 60 english ones, depends no how much use your going to give it.
Kit gets a  from me.

That's a good point about use- have go this far without one so it is possibly the way forward.
What's your thoughts on the plastic collars on the stands- are they fragile/ easy to strip or makes no difference?

Collars seem ok. would not be impossible to strip them, but there is no need to massively tighten them anyway, light finger tip tension is all thats needed, they dont slip. Better than some I have seen........... Pop round you can have a look at mine ......

Ok, ta- could probably fashion some metal replacements if required anyway. For the cost of a visit I could buy 2:lol:

Thanks both for the help- I like it when people keep my wallet in check:)
With the money I have saved I can then justify something else:lol:
