don't buy golf clubs, buy lessons then buy golf clubs if you like golf.
Any decent pro will 'fit' you out with the correct clubs to suit your standard/swing.
Not true. no beginner will have any kind of repeatable action worth fitting too, and most pros have only a rudimentary understanding of swing fitting.
Don't believe the golf club/ball/shoes advert gimmicks about reducing slice/hook and adding twenty yards to your shots......... all hype.
Absolutely true! completely avoid ALL golf magazines. They are poison to your game and will only confuse you.
Only lessons will help your golf.
Nearly true. Lessons from a decent pro will quicken progress, but it is possible to follow some simple fundamentals and be guided by intelligent amateurs via video and make good progress.

Dean, are you arguing with me?
I said 'decent pro', do a search for your nearest swing fit centre.
Another thing, I challenge you to a round of golf this summer Dean.
I play off 7, Come and play at my club, just off junction 20 M62 so not to far for ya.
Don't worry about the clubs, I can borrow a set off one of the lads.
Actually I was gonna get you some Rhapsody Ladies Ping Irons because of all the whining you are doing![]()

It's entirely dependant on the quality of the teacher, how knowledgeable they are, how well they communicate, how rigid they are, whether you like them, whether you make progress quickly.
On the whole I'd say a good teacher who really understands the fundamentals of a biomechanically correct golf swing that#ll last you a lifetime and is easy to maintain is worth their weight in gold. A bad one, well...
I'd speak to some people in your area and find out who has a good reputation without costing the earth. you'll want someone who can teach you the fundamentals of a solid swing as well as the short game, because that's where you'll progress quickest.
Don't think it's a case of "you get what you pay for" either.
You seem to have expensive tastes. Photography....Golf....
