Has anyone ever seen one of these wild in this country? I've only ever seen them in captivity in another country.

However......a colleague this morning got his camera out and asked me if I knew what bird he'd taken a picture of that was in his garden....low and behold it was a golden pheasant......is this common in some areas? Or is this rare? Has anyone else seen one in the wild?

Never seen them but always thought of making a trip to see them but lost the place someone told me. Just been looking.

Collins book says they are hard to observe.

There are plenty of escapees kicking about the country, an odd individual bird could well be one. There are a couple of sites in Norfolk that are well known for them, the best known being the Wolferton triangle (near Sandringham) - though in recent years the birds there seem to be showing traits of other pheasant species so who knows if there are any pure golden pheasants there still.
