has anyone got any ideas for where to get the best photo opportunities?
 
Tha Southbank is always good for various stuff. Campden town for the wierd n wonderful :D
 
stock london is the river and the embankments
you can venture up to richmond and hampton or down to the barrier
docklands should be of interest and st pauls
 
Thanks for that slimboy. I'm going in with an open mind. Plan to do all the big main attractions architecture - wise. I've hired a wide angle which should be interesting as i've never used one before.

Paulie i hadn't thought of camden market that's a good one.

any others? So far on my list i've got:
Houses of parliament
Big Ben
Tower Bridge (might go at night and get some car trails)
london eye
The Gurkin
South Bank

struggling a bit to be honest! i can do a google search for "london main attractions", but has anyone got any hidden gems that they wish to share? ;)

Highgate Cemetery - took my new nifty fifty there for a spin this weekend. Will try and post some shots this week which might help you judge if it is your cup of tea...

Going round by the Tate Modern should give you some nice shots, especially with the bridge there and St.Pauls over the river.

Thames barrier sounds interesting. No mcCrow, don't want to go out that far and i was typing mine when you posted yours. where on the river are the docklands?
 
If you're looking for architecture, the Mayor's office (South side of Tower Bridge) can be quite interesting in the right conditions
 
It is well worth going out early in the morning on at least one morning to avoid the crowds of people too, particularly if you are going to do popular tourist places. The light will be more interesting too hopefully :)

Yes

Wherever you stop.

Don't look for the obvious, you'll end up with snapshots.

Walk around, breath a little, take five and have a coffee, watch whats going on.

If you can't work it out from there :thinking:

London is a very diverse place.

Go to the OXO building. They have an observation area on the top floor overlooking the river which you can photograph from.

And a really good gallery. Didn't know about the observation platform.

We usually get down to Charring Cross/Embankment tube station, cross the footbridge and walk the south bank.

You've got festival hall and the national theatre with Graffiti underneath and skateboarders, plus the book market, joggers etc.
Then further along you have the Tate Modern, Millenium bridge with St Pauls on the opposite side, shakesperes globe theatre, the buskers under southwark bridge and the golden hind.
Then you get London bridge, Southwark catedral and Borough market, before the walk back along past HMS Belfast, the GLC glass building and Tower bridge, with the tower of london in the background.

Plenty of places to stop, eat, drink, photograph.

If you're feeling energetic you can cross Tower bridge, walk back down the others side of the river with St pauls, Fleet street, the Temple area with all the old baristers courts, Royal courts, then ST Clement Danes church - the church of the RAF with the statue of Bomber Harris outside.

My fav bit of london to walk in.
 
st pauls is always my fave , with the milenium bridge, the old bailey, the globe theatre. and bank of england so close by


but love tower bridge
 
Some interesting views from the barbican, and the City is interesting (to me), millenium bridge, tower bridge HMS belfast etc are all in close proximity.

Thames barrier isn't central London, you'll need to take a train to get down there.
 
get a tube rover and travel to some exotic places
baker street
regents park
pubby area round marleybone
bunhill fields near old street...iirc the burial place of john wesley

Take a 50mm all good for some street photography whilst wandering around doing the sight seeing.

There is lots to see and do, plenty of photo opportunities.

London eye and all along the bank into central London is pretty good.

Don't waste your money. Just by a street map and walk everywhere. I used to use the underground until I realised just how close all those stops were.

(This advice is more for the central London area than some of the more outer areas).

i really actually do the same...hyde park to st pauls isnt that far

last time i was in london i was in victoria and did the walkabout via parliament square...trafalgar piccadilly and green park back to the pub in victoria
got some exercise and a good meal and a pint
