Going to visit a couple of lakes from about 7pm onwards in the south east , any photography tips?

p.s No nd grad yet and still my crappy kit lens , hate being broke :(

Difficult light, low on horizon, contrast and reflective surfaces = very awkward conditions.

My advice - Don't trust your meter, rely on instinct, and look for good shapes and silhouettes!

Contre joure photography can produce some beautiful shot's, and it's well worth trying.

If you get some good subjects, and get it right, the result could be fantastic.

Good luck

not always best to shoot into light, look behind you at the shapes shadows and colours, took some the other night best ones were fresh cut hay in lines with sun belting between them.
colours were amazing not got processed yet or would post and show

in fact will push one now to show you bout ten minutes

look for some foreground interest and make sure you have a focal point. Normal rules of composition still apply ;)

use a tripod and cable release or self-timer

Don't go home til it's dark! Some of the best colour will be dragged out of the sky by a 15 minute exposure, your eyes may not see it but the sensor will over such a long exposure!

No nd grads? DON'T RESORT TO HDR!!!!!!!!! just take one shot for the sky and one for the foreground then blend them!

Don't shoot towards the sun until it's nearly on the horizon or set.

Get low for impact!

Make sure you know roughly where to focus for hyperfocal and use f16 as when it starts to get murky your autofocus will become useless.

Using Cloudy w/b can warm up a scene nicely and add some real glow to a sunset.

Shoot RAW.

Look for details as well as the bigger picture.

Have fun!
