Tomorrow (as a witness I hasten to add :) ) and seriously not looking forward to it :gag:

Has anyone else ever had to do this?

I nearly had to go to court for being asualted

But no. It sounded scary though. Luckily the mug who attacked me was cautioned and if he hits anyone again hes going to prison (Drugies eh)

Well good luck with it though.

Thanks jordie

Yes, a good few years ago I was a witness for the prosecution in a trial. It all went very well as I recall, all though I was a bit dazed by the experience. Apparently I was whistling as I left the stand... Oh, and the guy was found guilty too

Thanks for the reply Hepburn

Still dreading it though

Hi Splog.

The best advice I can offer is to answer all the questions honestly (obviously) but do not be drawn into speculation or guessing, if you do not know the answer or do not understand say so. Your evidence and integrity will benefit and you won't be led into an embarassing situation.

Couldn`t agree more. I`ve done a couple of Magistrate courts, and one Crown. My sister is a police officer and she pretty much offered the same advice.

Having sat on two Juries (one for fraud: found guilty but got off on appeal and one for GBH: found not guilty but was up for a number of GBH cases we were not told about), once as a witness for an accident, and seven years as a divorced father trying to stay in touch with my children (litigate in person: self representation), I have no faith in the whole Court system

Tell the truth, keep calm but the outcome will be nothing like it should be.

Best advice I can give is.... get a claim form and get paid for your expenses :)

Presuming they still do that?

Years ago I had to give evidence at an inquest, after someone that passed me on the way home one night went head-on into an oncoming car and killing them both iirc. It was a most unpleasant experience and something I hope never to repeat.

Thanks everyone :)

Actually it wasn't too bad after all  but it was a total waste of time and money :bang:

Yep, that sounds about right for the British Legal system.....

glad it went ok - im nervous about these kind of things as you never know what retaliati0on they could take! wether it be for a salp of a wrist or a jail sentance

Was a witness on fri just gone. Have they not given you an information pack or arranged for someone from witness services to meet you. Now the norm is if your a witness your'e segregated from anyone one else in a room with a support person to help you.You have a copy of the statement if you gave one and are allowed to read it for a memory refresher and the solicitor will just run through a few things with you.Keep answers to minimum and just yes or no if not prompted further. If its you thats accused similar experience but not in private room. You will in all probably be scanned by a hand wand i was my self by security and i work for the same group.Good luck its hard but relax it goes quicker and you can leave after you have testified if you wish and be notified of the result by phone or letter.
