Me and the wife are going Edgbaston next week for the first day of the test, I only have two lenses a 50 prime and a 18-200.

Will the 18-200 be good enough to take some on field action shots?

Not expecting much as I'm a total newbie, but if I know it's a bit of a waste of time I won't bother taking it.

Thanks

it depends what body you are shooting with and what crop factor the sensor has

i'm guessing its a 1.5 crop factor then so you would have in effect 300mm at the long end, you may be able to get some reasonable shots with some cropping but it will depend where you are sat

Just checked it has 1.6 crop factor, we are sitting in the new stand so not sure how far away we will be.

I will take it and give it a go. Thanks

At Edgbaston 300mm might not be quite enough - the wicket is quite far usually - I've shot there and sometimes even having 300mm with x2 extender is a bit short (depending on where you sit).
From the new stands .. if you are on the lower section, you might be getting some OK shots with it.. but don't expect any close-up images of batsmen ;-)
Enjoy the game - I might be there photographing the game.. not sure yet.

We are in the lower tier, your right the wicket is normally a bit far. Was a member for years and never got a decent shot with my old compacts.

Guess it will be worth taking to get some shots of the new stand anyway, weather is looking good which is a change when I normally go to an international it's pouring down.
