Afternoon all,

Ive recently got a Yongnuo Yn460ii flashgun, which Im enjoying playing with.

Im just wondering if there any is any way of enabling my cameras High Speed Sync with this flash, to allow me shutter speeds of faster than 1/250th?
I am getting the black lines when attempting anything above this atm, suggesting HSS is needed... any pointers?

Thanks :)

Don't think you can. There's a reason why the Canon flashes cost more...

HSS is achieved by the flash pulsing light during the entire time the shutter is open (which is why you lose a lot of power in the process). It's quite a complicated way of dealing with high sync speeds and, as such, means investment in the flash design.

Which is the reason cheap flashes are cheap, lack of R&D. If you want flashes that are cheaper then Canon and still offer the same features have a look at Metz (and maybe Sigma). They'll still be a lot more than the Yongnuo though.

All Canon guns do HSS, including the 270EX. Cheaper third-party ones don't, but the top end £200-ish Nissin, Sigma and Metz models do.

270EX is more powerful than the spec suggests (as I keep pointing out ;)). If you can get the old model for under a ton, it's the cheapest HSS enabled gun available and is only 2/3rds of a stop down on the 430EXii when compared like for like at 50mm setting. And amazingly small, great little gun.

All you get is a black bottom to the picture the faster you go.
I tried to 1/500, at 1/320 it could be cropped out.
