Right im off for the first time snowboarding... im only planning on doing a bit each morning but thought it great to get a few shots ! this is the gear i was planning on taking

canon 60d
flash
Sigma 30mm 1.4
Canon 18 -135
Sigma 10-20
tripod

Ive got a 10stop filter and also a polirizer for the sigma 10-20 and 18-135 but i have no filters for the (new) sigma 30mm

any advice on what im missing ?

Perhaps a remote shutter release depending what and how you wish to shoot.

Lens cleaning kit.

Spare batteries/charger.

Don't forget your tripod QR plate ( something I do regularly!!!!)

Maybe you already have these bits packed? I find it's often the small accessories that I forget to take.
Nightmare when you get to your location, realise you forgot something and no way of being able to obtain something locally!

To add to that, assuming you're going abroad, remember you will need an adaptor for your 3 pin plugs!!

I assume you're not thinking of carrying any gear in backpack/pocket when you're learning? You will fall a lot and the last thing you need is camera gear to crack a rib etc. The first week of snowbaording is pretty brutal for the amount you will fall over an awful, awful lot. I'd be more worried about imapct shorts and wrist guards than camera gear!

Hopefully you can have a morning on the slopes and then get your camera gear out!

def thanks all :) im not taking stuf on the snow ! i will go out in the afternoon and the evening and see what i can find to take ! ah now full kit ive got to take lens cleaning , batterys , charger, what about filters? ive never really been anywere 'cold' with a camera before ....did not think about actual snow gear for learning ? i was advised against wrist gards by a friend...hum

I am not a boarder but I think the impact shorts will be a big help from what I have heard. You're better off learning to fall properly than using guards I think.....i.e. rolling back and let the fall take your momentum rather than trying to break momentum with your hands/wrists.

Forget all that though and enjoy it...hopefully you'll get some blue sky days.

plenty of memory cards, or some kind of storage device?

I've snowboarded for a good while now and in all honesty you'll spend the first 2-3 days on your a*se or face.
Get some wrist guards, please. Yes learn to fall properly but it doesn't prevent a lifetime of self-preservation and putting your hands down to stop yourself.
Taking your kit out on a lesson would probably end in tears I'm afraid. Enjoy yourself and if anything have a couple of half days off for recovery and get out with the camera then.

Another vote for wrist guards! And some knee protection as well. Don't forget a helmet too, some resorts now insist on them. Not sure about the camera gear as I wouldnt risk mine boarding.

I took all my gear this year but ended up solely shooting on a compact because I wanted to board we much as possible. Seriously, if its your first time on a board, I'd concentrate learning that. Carrying gear around makes you worry and it'll just get in the way and I'm sure that you'll want to spend as much time on the hill as possible.

Like already mentioned, wrist guards are good - a helmet is a must IMO.
