Yes
a friend just posted on FB a school photo of her daughter and it had copyright all over it, she is asking how can it be removed so shw can copy the picture,,:bang: have sent a message saying don't do it but i feel i will fall on deaf ears...:bang:

I think you should follow the copyright info and contact the photographer directly. Let them know.

i have done so.. but i feel mean but at the end of the day it is not on.

I doubt he's going to hang his friend.

I'd be interested to kknow if the photographer had written permission to take these school shots? Were they for sale without copyright after the shoot? Was it a case that your friend just refused to pay for copies they could then use?

[edit] seems you would hang a friend :D

What isn't fair, and what is mean, is stealing photos from photographers without paying, stealing apples from market stalls, pick-pocketing little old ladies, deliberately short-changing people at the check-out and hoping they won't notice, etc.

Especially leading up to Christmas.

When we get our boys School photos.
The sampes are that small you cant do nothing with them, even if you wanted to.
They have got the copyright logo across the four corners
I think they serve the puprose right.
Just enough to see the compsure if you want to order them...

It's a FB friend.. they're not really real ;)

Aye, I have many of those I guess.

We still don't know the full details though. Were copies for sale after the shoot? Was this FB friend just too mean to pay for copies without the watermarks?

I shot a ballet for a dance school a while back, they asked for down sized images to pass around to the parents, the idea being they would then order sets from me of any they wanted. I stuck a watermark across the centre of all images and downsized then, enough to view small online, but useless for anything else. I ended up making a nice sum from sales after. Most people will pay the few quid for nice images of their own kids. For all I know some may have used those watermarked ones only, but ... what can I do? They will look pretty cheap for doing so, and I don't feel I lost out considering I sold more than enough.

standard school shoot.. got the proofs and asking anyone to help remove the watermarks/copyright marks.

What????

You do not need permission. Upto parents whether they buy or not.
All kids shot for School data base.

Schools get written permissions at start of School. Parents can say then or opt out of shoots in the future when given notice.

I doubt he's going to hang his friend.

He's a she! As said above, it's a farcebook acquaintance not a friend. I would report it to Farcebook as well and get the image taken down.

did you explain to her why she shouldnt do it ? or did you just say dont do it ?

That is giving and getting permission ... And not all schools give them start of year, they send out forms as events come up. You still sign, giving permission, see? ... sorry ..????? :bonk:

What difference? Facebook wouldn't give a stuff.

Big difference(s) between Terri and a bloke!!!

Do Farcebook no longer take copyright as seriously as they used to?

I never look at the names, just alias on forums, makes no odds if someone is m/f. Would it matter if I said I was female?

I think the reports would be largely ignored on FB, they probably get 100,000's per day.

But this is someone else reporting others for using photos belonging to someone they don't know ... They may simply respond that any images uploaded to FB, pretty much belong to FB, and that's why people use watermarks.

I really cannot see them telling someone off for using a photo of their own kid.

They won't 'tell them off' they'll just remove it. No ifs or bits or discussions of what George down the pub believes about Facebook and copyright.

There's a lot of "George says down the pub" armchair warrior posts right here ... None of you even know the person OP was on about, nor the situation re the images. This thread is pretty much all hyped up nonsense talk.

I might be too trusting but the OP says images which are clearly marked as proofs have been posted on FB. I have no reason to believe the OP would start a thread just to lie about an unnamed individual, if you think that's the case, then you're entitled to your opinion. it strikes me as nonsense, but you're perfectly entitled to hold that view, although expressing it directly could prove to be illegal.

However, the treatment of IP content by Facebook isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact.

Well, I suppose it's possible the photographer had granted permission to the OP's FB 'friend' to post it there and that the photographer had also granted permission for their watermark to be removed.

Possibly the friend doesn't exist, the photo doesn't exist, and perhaps the OP is a fictional character too.

Or the Moon may actually be made of cheese instead of rock. I've never been there, so I can't tell for myself. It could all be hype.

Any or all of the above may or may not be true, false or unverifiable; in common with most of the posts on TP.

In this ontological vacuum, I suspect it may be advisable that in future nobody posts any comment here. Best the mods close the forum right now. ;)

thats why you tell the photographer and they (if they want) report it.

and facebooks terms are only there so that they can post and repost IP on their site for people to see (and use in adverts unless you opt out).

too many infractions and youll get booted off too (last time I read their abuse policy).

There certainly are:

They're legally obliged to take them down

ANd they take down thousands of pictures a day:thumbs:

Which is hilarious..
I reckon someone round here likes hanging around under bridges.;)

Thats not even in doubt - didnt you see that 'documentary' where a bloke and his dog built a rocket and went and brought back samples

standard school shoot.. got the proofs and asking anyone to help remove the watermarks/copyright marks.

someone will do it - mind you if she likes the idea of having her kids picture printed from a low res file with the copyright cloned out then more fool her - that will really be something to treasure in the years ahead
